So I happen to be streaming Y100 this morning, and find out I'm in the middle of a "Top 20 countdown". Huh? A countdown during the mid-day on a Monday? Random...come to find out, it's an "interactive" countdown where you can text your vote to the folks at Y100 and they count down the 20 most requested songs three times every day...10AM, 3PM, and 7PM.
I find this to be very interesting for a number of reasons. For one, the obvious inspiration for this seems to have been XM's Top 20 on 20 channel, which is basically a continuous cycle of Top 20 countdowns. Second of all, that's nearly six hours worth of daily programming devoted to a countdown! Seems awfully structured.
Seems Mason is shaking this up in Miami and making the music the focus. I'll be interested to see how this move works out.
Another interesting note, if I understand correctly, Nikki is no longer at WKSC-Chicago. Wonder how that will affect the mid-day shift at Y100?
