Y100 Winston & Alyce-SA

Not sure if anyone caught this but the morning couple have left the San Antonio airwaves.

KRIS WINSTON and ALYCE IAN have been doing mornings there for a decade, after a couple decades spent in other radio gigs.

"For nearly 30 years I've been blessed to get paid for having a good time and for making people laugh along the way," WINSTON said. "The SAN ANTONIO listeners are the best in the world, and I thank them with all my heart.

A permanent replacement for the duo is expected in the coming weeks.

Wow. They had a long run. I recall they came to KZEP in '85, or 86, before moving over to Y-100.
I'll never forget the first time I heard Chris: "And now, the Monkees on CD!"

Jesse James and Randy Shannon are going to be doing the morning show. They're from another Country station here in Denver CO.

exactly when and why did W & A make the big transition from rock to country? I recall it was some time in the late '90s or early 00's? Was it due to impending layoffs, $$$ or were they closet country all along?

its always been my understanding that a good jock or jocks in this situation can do any format.

Agreed

Not that this is big news or of great concern to anyone, but here's what happened. This is no knock on Y-100 at all, but in September we gave notice that we would not be renewing our contract. Just felt it was time to push myself in other ways. At the end of October, Alyce told me that she did not wish to move with me and basically told me that the marriage was over. After being married for over 23 years and having been in S.A. for that long, it was agony to deal with so many memories. I decided to continue with my move and the folks at COX allowed me to walk away. They even gave me the opportunity to say good bye on the air and I did appreciate that. There are a lot of really good radio people in S.A. and I wish you all the very best. I'm in Bakersfield, CA and OM over 5 stations. 4 spanish and a soon to be smokin' Classic hits station.

Did you bring along Spanish for Gringos?

Thanks for the update and sorry to hear about the unpleasantries. But no one has ever revealed why you made the abrupt and unexpected change from KZEP to Y100. Was country music always your preferred format? Was being a rock DJ just a way to pay the bills until some other opportunity came along? This has been asked before and never answered. I don't care to hear that any good jock can do any format, because mostly its a rare occurence. Just as in any field of the entertainment business, people are stereotyped into a role/format/genre that they can never leave behind and in most cases, ends careers.

As to W and A's marriage woes, and the loss of their job at Y, all I can say is KARMA. And looks like it hit you with a vengeance, I don't wish divorce on anyone, not even my worst enemy. Funny, I recall Winston and I discussing that very subject, not so very long ago...who'd a thunk it would come to pass.... I wish you well in your new gig in Cali. Hope you take some time for reflection and inner soul searching....life is short...

And as to them leaving KZEP, I'm sure they'll give other stories, but that departure is also pretty much laid at the feet of Alyce, and as usual much drama involved ::) I'm pretty sure Winston had no desire to leave that format.

Edited to add, I worked on air with W and A for almost their entire tenure at KCYY. Let's just say, it was an experience that left me shaking my head in disappointment and disbelief...

Karma? So, you think I deserved to have my wife of 23 years and morning show partner of 26 leave me?

Point of fact, Alyce had nothing to do with our departure from KZEP no matter what you were told.

"I'm pretty sure Winston had no desire to leave that format." Please don't speak for me, Betty.

I started this post just because a couple of folks had suggested I clear some rumours up, not to make myself a target.

The rest of you---take care and best wishes.

Knowing what I know? Knowing you? It's not for me to say whether or not you 'deserved' this or not, but let's just say it comes as no surprise. And judging by your response, you still don't 'get it', and that my friend is a pity. Good luck to you in your new life.

As usual for this board, thanks for not answering the question.

Kris...I can not say how sorry I am to hear about the marriage side of things. Did radio kill the love? I pray not...I too love radio...and would hate to have to choose or anything close to that.

You are a good dude on the air and in the halls.

Sometimes this happens. And it is a door opening. Would love to talk to you somehow.

Calls where you are? Best to you and her.

Your Radio Brother

Kris--iust had to let you know that you are definantly missed at the station. Jesse & Shotgun are a great couple of guys, but I still get your diehard listeners emailing me weekly. I had no idea that you took off to Cali! Too cool! What a great place to re-invent :)

Best wishes to you. Don't be a stranger.

Glad I don't work with YOU BG. You sound very hateful.
