Y102.5 a full-blown AC?

I was listening to Y102.5/Charleston online today and it sounds like it's officially a full-blown AC. Not any currents but mostly 60s-80s AC...Murphy, Sam and Jody, CC's syndicated? AC morning show, is on from 5-9 mornings, and John Pleisse (WMYI VO) is doing liners...hear Lizz Ryals, voicetracked from WMYI/Greenville doing mid-days, as well as sweepers saying stuff like 'The best Mix', 'At-work station', etc. I like AC, but it's sad to see what this once-great Oldies station has become over just a year or so.

I heard them last summer sounding like a soft AC from the 70's. Gone was the energy and excitement. Instead of announcing a format change, they just did it very slowly, hoping, I suppose that the Oldies listeners would stick around. It is a shame, though, but inevitable.

It is a shame. IMHO Oldies will always be a viable format because the music has universal, easy to grasp qualities. There's a reason a lot of businesses still use Oldies on their in-house music systems.

Radio has been on this kick of making short-sighted decisions. Jerry Del Colliano had a great post on that recently.

I think the nail in the coffin was letting Leo Wyndham, Alison Keller and Kain Cameron go. Kain was with them for a very long time, and always did a good job. I remember a few years ago they had Leo and Alison, Kain Cameron, Bill Shannon, and evening and overnight jocks. They made it fun and interesting, very upbeat and they sounded like they loved Oldies and what they were doing. These jocks now just can't compare. The last PD that came in '05 would have done better just shutting the oldies off and flipping it to AC instead of dragging it on.

just FYI, Bill Shannon is now programming a pitiful Oldies station in Columbus, Ohio. They aren't doing very well but not for his not trying. He seems to be an infinitely talented PD.

I really hate to hear and see what they have done with Y102.5 and am not really surpriseded considering CC's game plans. The thing I am wondering is how they are going to be able to comptete with Sunny 96.9.

Y102.5's ratings have gone UP since they've made these music changes.
It's now more of a 70s centered station than an Oldies station.
Seems to be working. Hate to see them get rid of good talent, though.
