Y102 on 104.5???

Perhaps DX?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DXing

Or E-skip?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-skip

There's no [licensed] 104.5 station broadcasting from amywhere near our metro area.

Rock 105 in Jacksonville occupies the 104.5 FM frequency in the closest proximity to us.

Okay, so I take that back.. there *is* the WHZL-LP licensed to Weirsdale, but I doubt that's reaching anyone that doesn't live near Highway 42. And W283AN just recently signed on in Altamonte Springs... buy why relay Y102? I'm pretty sure you were just getting DX.... though I can't advise why you heard the station you heard on the frequency you stated.

Hmmm. I first found the signal while at home in south Orlando where it was sketchy, but found that it came in clear as day when I was at work in Altamonte Springs.

Listened this morning and heard 102.5 WYNR out of Waycross, GA on 104.5 FM. I really think we're just hearing translators that are skipping their way down here. WFYV Rock 105/104.5 out of Jax was fighting to stay on top of it, but anytime I sat still I was hearing country music and eventually their ID from Waycross/Brunswick GA.

I looked ar recnet.com, and it shows the primary station for the Altamonte Springs translator is WREH 90.5 Cypress Quarters, FL. They have translators all over the place in the commercial part of the band that must receive either the main signal or another translator over the air (no microwave or satellite feed). One of their other translators is 102.5 in Palm Bay, which seems to be the most logical feeder.

This is one of the pitfalls of daisy-chaining translators and feeding them over the air. But, unless they can move into the non-commercial part of the band (88-92), you'll be hearing this sort of thing whenever theres DX.

I did the same recnet query this afternoon when I heard the stations once more, and after hearing the WREH ID at 5:00p coming home. Is there a chance the Reach FM translators could have been retransmitting the Y102 programming in err? The regular religious programming has been airing most of today instead of what we've been hearing on these frequencies over the past two days. I distinctly remember being able to hear the out-of-town station's (Y102, not the other Georgia one I heard) programming on both 104.5 and 104.7 on my car stereo while in Lake Mary yesterday and when I tried listening over the weekend. Perhaps someone fixed a relay goofup today?

My best guess is that the translator on 104.5 in Orange County hears the 104.7 in Volusia County who is supposed to be hearing the 102.5 in Flagler County. If the receive antenna in Volusia County (Orange City tower) is aimed at the 102.5-Palm Coast translator (located on the old 99.9 tower in Flager County) it would be perfectly lined up to receive Y102.5 in North Charleston, SC in the event that the Palm Coast translator is unreadable.

This is all a big guess on my part, but one that would make sense. If the receive antenna on the 104.5/Orange City tower translator is up high on the stick it could easily be hearing the RF fallout of Y102.5 when there is no trace of it on the ground.

I think it was simply DX/skipping. It was really crazy last week from what I've read on the boards. As far as Reach-FM, they must have fired up a bunch of these translators in the last few weeks as we're now stuck with one on 94.5 around Tampa Bay. No more DXing Star 94.5 for us.
