Y103.9-Oldies!

Y103.9 in Crystal Lake is doing a "Million Dollar Jukebox Weekend".
They are playing lots of Stones, Mamas & Papas, Buckinghams, Beatles, Lovin' Spponful etc...mixed in with the Gloria Gaynor, Rose Rose & Gladys Knight cuts.

Could this mean a gradual flip to straight Oldies??

The cut-ins are saying they will be doing this every weekend...if the response is good it would seem quite possible.

You got it, Nine had a golden opportunity to fill the oldies void. I can guarantee you that if Y-103.9 goes oldies (with a little disco thrown in), they will get some numbers.

What's next for Nine? They are sounding really bad lately.

I think Nine has been sounding pretty decent lately. And their ratings are slowly inching up.

I personally think WZZN should go oldies.

Props to NextMedia for filling the void at least somewhat. They flipped the local AM station (WLIP) up here from AC/Oldies to Oldies exactly 1 month after WJMK went Jack (July 3rd) The flip kicked off with a 4th of July weekend special "Top 1050 Songs Of The Rock & Roll Era", led to local oldies programming for the week after the 4th and finally ABC Oldies Radio kicked in. I don't think the station has sounded any better in years. It would be interesting to see what they would have turned KOOL 95.9 to The River if Jack was launched 4 years earlier.

Nine FM also added more 60s/oldies onto their playlist after WJMK went down the toilet.

And then there is always WRLL.

This all should be interesting.<P ID="signature">______________

> I agree it will be interesting....scources say John Calhoun (wjmk) was seen at NM this week...if they do decide to go straight oldies they do need a morning show...I dont even know who they have on there now it has made so little impact....but I think NM is afraid to make the switch in case some downtowner goes oldies...but hey they do ac on 'Star' and arent worried bout bonneville's ac or WLIT.....why be afraid if somebody goes oldies...get one of the free JMK people to do mornings and you have instant credibility

I realize some of these guys are still under contract with Infinity and/or Clear Channel. But those contracts will soon be up and ANYTHING can be negotiated.
Expensive, yes? Worth it? Worth a LOT more than a 1.2!

IT'S STARING THEM RIGHT IN THE FACE!!!! WHY ARE PEOPLE IN RADIO SO BLIND????
Is it a pride thing?

How long is Biondi's? How long before everyone can start hearing "Magic 103.9, Dick Biondi here....."<P ID="signature">______________

A friend of mine told me (hehehe)...about a certain Biondi talk-up.

Circa 2003: He was playing "Happy Together" by The Turtles on 'JMK and said...
"Here are the Turtles...Are YOU a turtle? Of course you're not (Post)"

WTF...?

I would've loved to have heard that one.

biondi unlikely to associate himself with a dundee station even tho more people can hear him there than on HD....NM can t continue with three or four different slogans 'beat of burbs' motown soul rock and roll milliondollar weekend forever....also no morning show to speak of....suggestion...get somebody recognized by the oldies audience for mornings...add an all request live sat night show....upgrade your voice tracking (mic sounds like it has no processing) and sell sell sell
