Y105

I'd like to predict a nice new Triple A! Yeah, with a "Fresh" mix that's very familiar and very cool and not too hard for the younger soccer mom who seems to have no where to go but FLY 92 these days! Might be quite similar to WKBE.

There is already a AAA station here on 97.7 called The Exit. By far one of the best stations in the market.

Oh fun! Okay let me try a little logical decoding here. Assuming the new format will be called Y105 it has to be either a) 104.9 or b) 105.7

I will rule out 104.9 right off the bat. While Pamal doesn't do everything right, they do know to use an exact frequency. A few years back they unveiled a new logo for Fly which added the point three to the 92. The idea of being just Fly 92 was from the days when people had a dial and needle that never displayed exact frequency. Today that is just silly to not use your entire frequency.

Regent on the other hand might be silly enough. You still find the missing point whatever in small markets and based on the resume and track record Mark Vanness has, calling it Y105 sounds like it'd be his idea.

So when can we expect Buzz 105.7 to become Y105? I predict (again based on Mark's resume) that this will be a CHR to go after Fly because he has lots of experience in that format. If that is the case then the battle might be a good one!

You def have a solid point and CHR is a sensible possibility. Heritage will win though. FLY sounds great! Regent has no money to promote anything so very few will know about a new product and will attempt a music count again. It does little if the average listener is not aware of it. Maybe a new owner will surface?

Unless you throw incredible money at a product, both in terms of on-air talent, great music research and killer promotions, you're right... heritage almost always wins.

Time will tell what's next!

Based on your response Mark I think we're on to something ;)

Although I was pretty hard on you previously on here I think you could to a fine job of CHR and could be a big threat to Fly. Sure they have heritage, and the station doesn't sound bad per-se but it doesn't sound good. Terry O'Donnell is a very safe programer. Fly is NOT leader but a follower and that won't change with TerryO at the helm. While The Morning Rush isn't bad either, they are no Candy & Potter or Woody & Jim. Not even close. Marissa is the only good fit really.

You can't win just on heritage and if in fact Y105 becomes reality and is CHR they should take a page from the Jamz playbook to be on the streets and up in Fly's grill at every op they can. That's how you'll win and I hope you do!

WOW...I haven't seen such morons post on this board in QUITE a while. Being in radio myself, I am shocked that Mark hasn't lashed back at you dummies who just jump to conclusions. Now, lets go through this thread PIECE BY PIECE.

- The board is the "Albany/Hudson Valley" board. NOT JUST ALBANY

- Look at the subject line. It says Y105. It doesn't say 104.5 The Buzz. It doesn't say any other damn station in Albany. It says Y105.

- Now kids...lets remember I said this board also includes the Hudson Valley. Now...I also reminded you the post is about Y105. Putting two and two together yet?

Are you?

I'm waiting...

I know you can do it...

Let me help...

Not the Buzz...

Not WTRY...

Not WFFG...

Ok numnuts...I'll just spit it out for you. The original poster is talking about WDBY, licensed to Patterson (IN THE HUDSON VALLEY) but serving Danbury, CT.

Now...if you want to post on this thread...post about WDBY and drop the damn "What is the Buzz flipping too" question that has been asked 8 million times over.

Ummm, Mr. Radiopro, The Buzz hasn't been 104.5 for awhile now. It's 105.7. The Team (ESPN Radio) is at 104.5. Just a minor update for you.

Thanks Bro for your help. Glad I can sleep at night now.

And Tower --- Why are you smiling? You are the dummy I was referring to who kept referencing The Buzz flipping to Y105 and carrying on the conversation like you knew what you were talking about.

There's two dummies - you and me because there are two "towers"

This is exactly why this board should be split into two boards. Nobody here in Albany gives a hoot about the stations in HV and vice versa and the usual dribble about an AM being on the air and off the air and oldies never coming back and so on.

Can we get RI to split the boards? There really is no reason to have HV included with Albany

That's a question better asked on our "Ask Radio-Info" board. The reason we include the Hudson Valley with Albany is because of the physical proximity of the two areas. That doesn't mean things always have to remain that way. Those with suggestions about what they would like to see changed can always send me a PM or email me at [email protected]. Make a compelling case for why we should include areas other than the HV in your correspondence. We've made changes to the boards based on user suggestions, so keep them coming.

It was kind of funny how some had already already narrowed down the format and congratulated the PD no less! When this thread first appeared I did a quick search for Y-105, and immediately found the CT station among others. Still with those anemic ratings, both 105.7 and 104.9 always seem to be format change candidates. I had ruled 104.9 out immediately, since they seem to be running promotions in anticipation of the winter book and they are running TV spots too. 105.7 on the other hand is so damn lifeless in terms of its music and its presentation. Too bad....It is a waste of a solid signal...

Station promos state that the format change will take place at 1:05 PM (on Monday 1/11).
As Y 105 primarily serves the Danbury CT area, it may make sense for them to flip to the Country format. Distant WWYZ from the Hartford area often gets pretty decent ratings in the Danbury area book. So perhaps a more local country station could do well in that area.
This will also bring at least a weak country music signal to New York's northern suburbs for the first time since the demise of Y-107 in 2002.
Perhaps sister Cumulus station WFAF on 106.3 could simulcast Kicks 105, to enhance the signal in Westchester County. WFAF of course is currently simulcasting WFAS FM on 103.9. But WFAS reaches most of the areas served by WFAF reasonably well.

If any Hudson Valley (non-Albany) types are on here...

How interesting *is* this flip of WDBY? I mean... they've been on the air for over five years and they did a pretty good job of luring away Bill Trotta from 98Q.

I guess it's pretty fitting commentary that 98Q's owners are a local company who believes in running good local radio stations (sister station WLAD kicks butt in the Danbury books).

I think 105.5FM/Patterson is best utilized as a northern half of a simulcast with one of their lower Westchester stations. Back in the day, I remember a "superstation" which a simulcast of 105.5 and 106.3 in the latter's post WVIP-FM era.

It would also be nice to see a station that gives Putnam County (and maybe southern Dutchess) a bit more attention. It's not just farmland and antique shops in Webatuck anymore. And I believe 105.5's original calls were WPUT-FM, no?

The Y105 website is down, perhaps for good.
A check of Whois shows that Kicks1055.com is registered to WDBY's owner, Cumulus. Perhaps that will be the new URL for the station, starting after it flips to country at 1:05 PM.
At the moment there is nothing there.
