On Tuesday I was in Hamilton and noticed that CJXY 107.9 had a rather weak signal in downtown Hamilton. CHML on AM had a stronger signal, and even FM96 from London was as strong or stronger than Y108. The signal was much better in Burlington (the city of license), as well as on Highway 403 west of Ancaster. Has anyone noticed this and are there transmitter issues? Makes me really wonder about the argument CBC has long used to either get rid of AM signals or get those nested FM transmitters.
I can also see why out-of-town tuning is so high in Hamilton. Y108 is a mismash of Q107 and 102.1 The Edge, which means there's no reason to listen to it if you have a preference for classic rock or active rock (I like both but I don't like hearing both on the same station for some reason). And CHML had a syndicated health show over the noon hour. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think CKOC is the only station worth listening to in Hamilton, because they do what no station in Toronto does, which is having oldies all the time, with live personalities in dayparts beyond only AM drive.
