Y108 Question...

Does Y108 pitch their music at all? Maybe on occasion? It may sound weird but I have an ear for stations pitching their music, even at a tiny percent. I've noticed that if I hear a song on Y108 and then listen to it on the CD, it sounds like Y108 may pitch the music at a small percent. Just an observation...anyone have any input?

OT, note on Froggy 95.5 out of Johnstown...their signal is quite amazing! I was out on Route 8 in the Glenshaw area the other day heading to Ross Park Mall and as I would hit "Seek" on the radio, Froggy 95 was still trucking all the out at Ross Park Mall. Truly amazing signal they have there!

Froggy is 57kW on top of a mountain.

Another question, however... the website link from Radio-Locator.com is to the Altoona Frog... is that right, is 95.5 just a simulcast of Altoona?

If they're going to simulcast a morning show that reaches Westmoreland county that well, why not Jimmy Roach?

Being I unfortunately lived in Altoona, I can tell you Froggy from Altoona simulcasts with Froggy in State College. The Johnstown station is ran seperately from the others with it's own air staff, etc.

The link for Johnstown is www.myfroggy95.com

and now that I live in Pittsburgh, I do flip thru the dial on a daily basis to see what is up, but from when I have checked out Y108, I have not noticed any difference. I will listen longer and more thorough tomorrow. I know KISS was doing the pitch deal many months ago. I could not stand listening to it as it drove me up the wall. LOL

Froggy 95.5 has had an incredible signal since probably the early 80's, when they debuted as Key 95 and hiked up their power. Their tower is on Laurel Hill Mountain, shared with WJAC-TV. Other than 105.9, they're the only Class C in Southwestern PA.

I remember switching back and forth between Y108 and the old WASP-FM (94.9 FM before the frogs) and you could tell that there was a significant difference in the music speed, so I believe that they do indeed raise the pitch.

I seem to remember that when WKYE was in it's earlier stages, they used to promote that they could be heard in 4 states (PA,MD,WV,NY by chance?). Not sure how accurate that claim was, but given how clearly we could here it in my hometown (about 15 miles west of Indiana PA), I wouldn't be at all surprised.

They are grandfathered Class B stations or "Superpower Class B Stations". There are also a few more then that in the area.

I think NY would be stretching it a bit. The remaining three, oh yeah.

Actually, I'm going by old class standards. Stations like WLTJ, WWSW, WDVE were all called Class II-B stations, with ERP's of 50kw at heights of about 800 feet. Those stations are all Grandfathered, and if they move today, they're restricted to 50kw/500 ft.

Key and the X are (were) the original Class C's.
