According to the Birmingham News, "The New 94.5" will debut with KID KRADDICK in the morning, former X-Staff Steve Robinson and Amber anchoring afternoon and nights and Valerie staying on middays. WOW!
 
God I would HOPE they would try SOMETHING! Having a 100k FM that ranks 17th should be a clue that it's time to try ANYTHING different.

Can somebody try to get an aircheck of the flip at 5 today and put it online?
 
Unfortunately, I am not in Birmingham. Did it flip? Also, was the exit of Rick & Bubba the downfall of this station?
 
They flipped at 5:00 sharp Friday afternoon. The last song Y94.5 played was "I Can See Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff. There was about 15 seconds of dead air, a countdown, and then an announcement that said something like "the days of boring radio in Birmingham are over." The first song they played was "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas. Their new slogan is "Birmingham's Hit Music"...but will the new format and branding go over well with listeners?

The loss of R & B was, without question, the downfall of the station. They went from the top of the ratings to the worst of the worst.
 
Is the Kidd Kraddick thing confirmed? While his show isn't anything special, he actually tries to be funny, which would make him stand out bigtime in the wasteland that is Birmingham morning radio. That could be a good move for them.

Since they can't call it the New 94.5 forever, what are the odds of the WAPI calls and I-95 name returning?
 
I was wondering about a possible name change too, except I figured they might go back to Mix 94.5. Who knows.

In one of their sweepers I heard a bed from the KIIS-FM jingle package. I guess jingles must be on the way.
 
I hate to be negative but it sounds like 99.1 WMYX here in Milwaukee - generic. I was listening online. It's more modern sounding yet not quite modern AC, than a hot AC – like a 90s and today station (Former KVUU K-View 99.9 comes to mind). I hope they will ask listeners to submit slogans like they did for the former 80s station KXCL Flash 103.9/92.1 in Yuba City/Sacramento, CA and award money to the one they choose.
 
It's interesting the way Citadel rolls out new stations. No we have to wait weeks for a new website, when it would be beneficial for them to have something up and running the moment the station flips.

And what's up with Kid Kraddick? Why not bring in someone live and local, even if they just rehash Beaner and Ken? Who knows, maybe Kraddick will put up Ace & TJ numbers. :eek:

You seriously need an answer to this? Local Morning show = 2 or 3 large salaries, plus a producer. Kraddick = $8.00/hr board op and some clearance time. Which would YOU choose if you were a piss-poor, cheaply run radio conglomerate?
 
I grew up in Alabama and was in town last week. The New 94.5...BLAH. They're just playing the same tired old radio safe songs we've been hearing for years, and the imaging sounded like a complete rush job. Another stale station for the Ham. When's somebody going to step it up and do BIG radio there again?

Having a guy who has done "alternative" a good bit of his career as the PD ought to be a clue as to the direction of the station. More of alternative lite feel (Modern AC) than a mainstream Hot AC. When the occasional pop or rythmic song gets mixed in it sounds bad. The imaging is weak, the Kiss-Fm jingle package sounds out of place. Off to a rough start. Though having Kidd on is fun to listen to. Lots of morning shows owe a lot to him, including the aforementioned Ace & TJ.
 
Had a chance to listen while in the Ham today. Not exciting or unique at all. Citadel misses striking gold big time.
The new 94.5 is a sad attempt at no direction. Why Birmingham has had such a long streak of lame sounding stations
is beyond me. Maybe I am just getting old, but Magic 96.5 actually had the best music on this weekend. I have stated
several times on these boards that Magic is THE worst AC station in America. That really says alot about the other stations.

I don't live in Birmingham anymore, but if I did I would like to hear morning show hosts talking about Golden Rule, Legion Field, and City Stages instead of their LA or New York equivilants. It's why Rick and Bubba beat John Boy and Billy. They're essentially the same show. One just happens to be in Birmingham.

That's what happens when you decides to half-ass every station in your local portifolio. Y-94.5, Hot 107.7 are both textbook examples of how crappy syndication and half-assing radio gets you. Neither station even banks half the share of their local competition. Both play it "too safe" because they don't want spend money on promotion to directly compete with anybody.
 
I may be in the minority, but I kinda like the new sound of 94.5. But I'm an XM guy who listens to Rick and Bubba on the way to work...my TSL outside of morning drive is nothing to brag about. But I like it...so does the wife...and we're both in the 18-34 +25-54 demos...
