Y94FM...I need some information please

Can anyone tell me who the PD or PD's were..in the year 91, 92, 93 & '94? I would appreciate it. Need to know how the station was doing back then ratings wise, and format. IF POSSIBLE; The air staff (all dayparts, 6am to 6am) in '93/94. Thanks for your time. Jake

I don't know if morning host Kathy Rowe was the PD back then, but she has been with the station for more than 20 years. I think she was even there when it was 94 Rock. You should shoot her an e-mail or try to call her office sometime (I'm sure she'd rather it be after her airshift ends at 9:00 am).

I think Rich Lauber was the PD back then wasn't he? Jim Crowe was at 95X for like just a few books in 91 and 92, J.J. Cook was at 93Q at least for parts of those years too. I think Lauber did middays.

Late 91, Gomez in the morning with Dick Deline on news. Rich Lauber was afternoon drive and the PD was Tom Langmyer? SP? Nights was Denny something and Kathy Rowe may have been mid days. Brian Ocean was doing overnights when i was listening. Hes still around, saw him this morning. Why doesn't anyone give him a PT gig?

Must be pretty easy for you to see him when it just involves looking in a mirror. In case you forgot, you have an icon link to your AIM screen name displayed on every single post you write. If you want to know why people aren't giving you a PT gig, how about asking them yourself?

Maybe it's because the days of the hippy-dippy, pot-smoking, perennially-late overnight/part-time jock are over. There are better, more reliable people available.

Good job Bob. In due time I will show up somewhere and ask again. The last two times I asked during the past year, I was offered a spot but didnt have the time to commit. Rox, youre still not much of a help to anyone, are you? Maybe you need to relax enough to "get the joke" and take a look in the mirror yourself. Besides, with a wife and many kids watching, I cant do any of the fun stuff anymore. Like partying with 800+ people at the clubs in the Syracuse area that my shift, and station were responsible for attracting. Well, maybe if the price is right but I tend to drink milk these days and fall asleep no later than 10. Hippy-dippy? Any shift, any daypart, I could make your popularity look like a **** parade in the streets of Canastota. Anyway, I hope the info was helpful to the original poster.
-Enjoy

Any shift, any daypart, I could make your popularity look like a **** parade in the streets of Canastota.

Now THERE'S a quote that will make you more marketable.

And you wonder why nobody wants to hire you. The fact that you've managed to breed doesn't bode well for the next generation. We can only hope that your wife's genes dilute your contribution.

You say that you've been "offered a spot but didn't have the time to commit". Then why the Hell should anybody bother with you? You managed to get 800 people to a night spot 20 years ago. So, was it you, or the half-priced drinks?

You've never even made it to a full-time daytime airshift in Syracuse, and you have the nerve to talk smack? BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA. Whatever you're smokin' must be potent.

Siroxalot needs a good woman (or man lol)

BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA?
Now theres a quote that will make you some friends! Who's smokin' here? :p
Why don't you just face it dude, i'm a pretty good guy with a lot of heart and cool ideas. Never been late for a shift, familiar voice and sound good on the air. I have always been a good friend to fellow workers too.

Welcome to the Locker Room

"Owner", your display of "wit" indicates that you started killing enough brain cells in Junior High that you never matured beyond that mentality.

Good Luck with your "career". Write when you get work, so we can all tune in.

PS - I expect that we'll have to wait until January. This is prime painted shovel season, so you're pretty busy right now.

Not sure who was PD in 91. Probably Tom Langmeyer. Tom O'Brien was PD in late 92 into early 93. He came from KGB San Diego. Alan Furst replaced Tom in early 93. He came to Syracuse to program WSYR and WBBS and became Operations Manager and Y94 PD when O'Brien left.

Y94 line was Gomez in morning until Big Mike returned in early 93. Cathy Rowe joined Mike and Gomez. Gomez left for TK99 in mid 93.

Lisa Moon was midday, Steve Marcus afternoon (after Rich Lauber moved to B104) Jay Nachlis nights. Marcus left in 95 to PD WEZN in Bridgeport. Nachlis moved to afternoons. Jean Ashley came in for evenings.

Y was typically #1 25-54 and sometimes 12+ in mid 90s. The last #1 12+ book was probably summer book 96.

Furst became VP Programming for Gulfstar (Capstar Group) in Austin Tx when Cox bought the stations in 97.

Hope that helps.

First, I would like to address Bob. I just want to compliment you on your knowledge of the business, common sense answers to the many posts, and your candiness. Even though I've gone from on-air and programming to the ad agency category, (except for some free-lance play-by-play) I also try to offer my views, whether 100% correct or not, in a candid, professional conversation. You also had another post about WIBX election night coverage. Without expanding too much, I will just say, I agree with you.

I have one question and one comment here. My question is...I am not sure of his real name, but remember listening to Dr. Phil on Y-94. Was he ever programming Y-94 when he was there? I used to think Y-94 was really soounding good when he was there and on-air, especially on Friday afternoons around 5-PM with his shove-it line and hour of 80's hits.

My comment is that even though I do not know the other poster "The Owner", however, i do remember hearing him on air. I did not think he sounded too terrible, but nothing special or out of the ordinary.

Dr. Phil would be Phil Lacasio. Not certain of the spelling. I believe he was PD for a time probably around 1990 or 91. Left for one of the Cox stations in Atlanta or Tampa I believe. Might have been PD of WSB FM.

In Buffalo, there's an afternoon drive person who's been known to be perenially late and even miss live breaks. ;)

Re: Y94FM...I need some prilosec

All I know is that Radio, as we know it, is being thrown under the bus by the Internet

Thanks Dave, no big deal.

...a little off the subject here.
Would anyone in their right mind buy a Radio Station in Utica? Honestly.

Without turning this into a "mushfest" I'll return those compliments 100%. For you and to the others taking part in these discussions. We don't have to go back too very far to remember the days when much of the discussion on this board consisted of a rather childish exchange between the various rock PD's in Syracuse and/or fans of their respective stations. As entertaining as that was to watch, it's also very nice to have some good discussion with some substance, rather than people just calling each other names.

Well, having participated in some of the mud slingin' my own bad self, I must admit that there was a certain charm to this board back in the day. It possessed a sense of orchestrated chaos, a scent of anarchy with self governance, a bit o' the Wild West.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the collegial posts that make sense and have clarity, but as Biggus would sometimes say, some post(er)s deserve the "clue by four" treatment.

Now, we haven't seen BD in eons, which means he could be in the Wetness Protection Program with Bone, operating under a different moniker or totally divorced from the board.

BTW:

I did not think he sounded too terrible, but nothing special or out of the ordinary.

Read out loud for best effect: "I-did-not-think-he-sounded-too-terrible-but-nothing-special-or-out-of-the-ordinary."

In other words, he was mediocre. Talk about daming with faint praise!
