Yahoo Sports Radio

I noticed this past weekend 107.5 / 1210 WTXK in Montgomery (Pike Road) is now broadcasting Yahoo Sports Radio.

Apparently Sporting News Radio is no more, having rebranded to take advantage of the Yahoo! online community.

As of the August 1st switchover there were 182 affiliates nationwide.

WNSP 105.5 in Mobile is an affiliate also, dropping ESPN Radio back in May. Reading the press release comments of David Gow (executive in charge of Gow Broadcasting and Mission Media Group, SNR's owners), this change has been in the works for months--so it's not totally unreasonable that WNSP management chose Sporting News Radio with some knowledge of the impending network changes in mind.

Just discovered on your site Mr. Zach that WZNJ and WXAL, in Demopolis, was listed as new stations for Yahoo Sports.

I wonder if there's any truth to that info. If those two stations are fixing to sign on with that network will we see any changes with the calls?

As of this post, WZNJ is still Urban.  WXAL is a different story.  Can't make out what they're doing.  Been having some issues getting them.

That's just what is listed on the Yahoo! Sports Radio affiliate list; I incorporated it into the listings the best I could. As far as I know, the only fulltime YSR stations are the one in Evergreen, Bay Minette/Mobile and now 1210 in Montgomery. The rest are probably part-timers.

Didn't WXAL run ESPN sports back in the day? Maybe that's some leftover affiliation from their time as a sports station.

I also noticed that WMCJ 1460 in Cullman is listed as a YSR affiliate. WMCJ has been silent for 5 or 6 months now, and outside of local high school sports and a morning talk show, sister station 1340 WFMH was an affiliate of SNR... I guess Jimmy Dale Burgess has decided to bring back 1460 with some more sports and talk, which makes me wander what is in store for his 670 watt blowtorch (that 90% of Cullman doesn't even know of) on 1340???
