Yakima Station flips to Christmas Music

Yes, I know, with 73 shopping days left until Christmas..but...Yakima's KYXE FM is now playing all Christmas music per My Northwest.com. It can be accessed online for listening should you just need a jolt of holly jolly. I used to work in Salt Lake City at KOSY 106.5, and we usually switched to the Christmas tunes on November 1. I thought that was early. October 12, wow!! Anyone remember when KVI switched to Christmas last year, wasn't near the end of October.

UNBELIEVABLE!

And I thought November 1st was too early. KRWM better stick to 11/23 (Black Friday)-12/25 only. None of these "two weeks before Thanksgiving" crap.

Smacks of desperation to me. All hail the people meter. Flip out! Any meaning ascribed to Christmas music be damned! Yes, Virginia, it's all just "product" now. And you're guaranteed to get sick of the "Christmas music" long before you get sick from your Halloween candy!

Another thing: This is a new FM station. Goodbye reception of K285FN and KNLX on 104.9...

KRWM usually begins the Friday before Thanksgiving (except a couple years ago when KJR-FM stunted with all Christmas music when KRWM began TWO weeks before Thanksgiving......)

Didn't KYXE actually start with Christmas music, rather than flip to it? Very early Christmas present for Yakima I guess, according to one of the articles (They should have started with Halloween music, then go to Christmas). Anyone speculation on what their regular format will be once the holidays are over?

Radio-locator still lists them as off the air, and both them and FCC say it's still under a construction permit. Station isn't listed on Wikipedia yet.

Since this is Yakima, I think either Country, Regional Mexican or Classic Rock......

How about AC? KQMY has been gone for almost a year-and the only way out is a staticky, multipathed KONA 105.3.

Why NOT start with holiday music? If you are starting a new stick in October, you introduce your format now only to have it buggered up by the holidays in a few weeks anyways. Better to wiggle the needles and get some awareness now, and then hit the new year with your "permanent" format. And not bad national publicity for a 600 watt flamethrower in the "Palm Springs of Washington" aka Yakivegas aka Yacompton.

You're right. And with the BIG advertising $$$/ratings spike that comes in every year for this format, it's actually pretty smart.....

You know that the PPM is not in Yakima, right?

Getting a little tired of my regular music sellection so listening to the Christmas music on 100.5 WTRV in Grand Rapids. I've been searching, but can't find an online stream for this station, and I wonder what is taking Wikipedia so long? They still don't have an article! I would start it, but I have no clue how to write that table at the top of the article.

CHQM also flipped to Christmas too.

I listened to 96.5 KVKI Sherveport, LA today. Good selection.

101.5 KPLA Columbia, MO is even better....

It's mostly KVKI (online), KRWM or KCMS (when WARM's commercials run on end). I think I heard "Sleigh Ride" Air Supply about three times yesterday. Plus Snoopy vs. the Red Baron. An AMAZING selection this year. One absence-Christmas in the Northwest :)
