Yankees Baseball

Is this a commercial? Toronto, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh have baseball teams that are considerably closer to Buffalo than the Bronx. What about the NY Mets? With luck, the Yanks games may boost ratings to a 0.5...

There is a Yankees fan base in Buffalo, albeit a small one. Same for the Mets. But you are right, the games won't move the needle much.

Not sure if the Mets ever had a radio affiliate in the Buffalo area. Over the years, they did have affiliates in the Albany, Syracuse, and Binghamton areas, but the Mets Radio Network never came anywhere close to the breadth of the Yankees network. Several years ago, the Mets decided to junk their local radio affiliate concept entirely (well almost -- see below) and direct all fans out of the NYC area to buy the MLB.TV app, which includes all radio games. The NYC Mets flagship is WCBS-880; the games are also carried on WCBS-FM-101.1-HD2.

The one exception to the Mets Radio Network demise is WPSL-1590 (no FM translator) in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Since Port St. Lucie is the Spring Training home of the Mets, and WPSL has been an affilate since the Mets moved to Port St. Lucie in 1988, WPSL was granted the right to continue carrying the games. BUT -- they only carry weekend games (and those sometimes get bumped by coverage of Florida sports).

The Yankees on a graveyarder without a translator in Lockport. Fitting.
