Yankees Radio: Decision 2012

While the AM band on the whole may be undesirable, 660 is still a blowtorch after all these years. Think of all the people in 38 states that could be sampling the new network... ::)

Has any decision been made for the Yankees Radio Network and WCBS-AM 880, once the 2012 playoffs end, of course?

I was listening to WKXP/WZAD's "The Wolf" where they also simulcast the Yankees from WCBS-AM earlier tonight where the Yankees lost to the Tigers at the ALCS to go to the World Series, and John Sterling had no announcing the next Yankee game for Spring training, all he says is so long from Comerica Park, and that's it! I hope the Yankees will return to WCBS-AM for the 2013 season if the contract is extended again. Maybe we should give FM a try.

I understand the Yankees are on CBS next year maybe not WCBS. But John was actually saying about himself and Susan I think not having a contract yet for next tear. I was waiting to hear if he was to say next year being on the radio. Nothing said.

As announced on August 30th, 2012 and discussed in a previous thread here, the Yankees will return to WCBS 880 in 2013. See story links above.

I heard the in-game, end-of-game and post-game show comments during the Yankees-Tigers Game 4 broadcast on Thu. 10/18/12; the only thing John + Suzyn said was that they'll be back in March at spring training in Tampa and that they didn't know the exact date of their first broadcast (John guessed that it would likely be the first Saturday in March 2013)...which is pretty much what they say at the end of every season, which for 17 of the last 18 years has ended in the playoffs in October (and twice in November).

They made no comments at all about "not knowing where we'll be next year" or "not having a contract", since that has already been determined for several weeks.

Maybe it's possible Sterling just plum forgot about the WCBS extension until 2013. It's not like all of his home run calls are known to be perfect or anything... :-X

I heard the ESPN broadcast of last night's Yankees-Tigers playoff game simulcast on the 101.5 Nassau County translator of Christian station Hope Radio. As Hope utilizes a chain of translators throughout LI, and also WLIX 107.1 in Suffolk County, this probably provided clear FM reception of the game throughout the Island.
Could this be an arrangement designed to extend WEPN FM's coverage eastward when ball games are played, in an attempt to lure the NY Yankees to sign with them?
BTW, I've been impressed how well the 10 watt 101.5 translator (W268AN) gets out. It can be heard quite clearly in much of the sections Westchester County and SW Connecticut that are near Long Island sound.

Thanks for the tip, John made no announcements about the upcoming Yankee schedule for a March Spring Training which leads to the 2013 regular season in April, but I don't see John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman leaving WCBS-AM anytime soon. There were some rumors that the contract for for Yankees at WCBS-AM has extended for next season. That happened in the last few months. Now CBS is going to buy 101.9 to go with WFAN after the failed format that Merlin had on 101.9 over the last two or three months, they will go with it. 660 is going to launch CBS Sports Radio in January 2013 and I don't know if the Yankees will headed next for the 2013 season. Maybe ESPN Radio will give a shot on 98.7 or maybe a return to WABC for the first time since 2001, but now Cumulus owns WABC, maybe the Yankees will return to 770, but I don't see it happening. We shall see.
