Rickie Ricardo was pretty good. And I believe Justin Shackil filled in for Meredith Marakovits when she did the TBS game.So John Sterling is stepping back from doing most road games. Say what you want about him but who they have been putting in his place are just boring.
nay nay nay! When Sterling retires (which I pray isn't for a long time) - put Ricardo in with Suzyn - Markovitz to the YES booth - and Ryan the FULL-time field reporter - i don't like the guy that was with Suzyn all week - thank God John is back for the Red Sox series!Rickie Ricardo was pretty good. Whenever Sterling retires, move Marakovits into the YES booth, Ryan Ruocco in the radio booth with Suzyn, and make Shackil the full time field reporter.
Brendan Burke was with Suzyn for the Astros/Pirates series, Ryan did the YES commentary in place of Michael Kay.nay nay nay! oh i know - not a fan of Mr. Burke - like i said above, i'm glad that Sterling returns for the Red Sox series!Brendan Burke was with Suzyn for the Astros/Pirates series, Ryan did the YES commentary in place of Mic
YES has way to many people in the booth. I don't know why they hire so many commentators.nay nay nay! Charlie Steiner was pretty good, he came before her and he had one of the most iconic calls in Yankees historyI always was in favor of the Sterling-Waldman team-up. Someone had to replace Kay as the 'color commentator', and to me Waldman has filled that role wonderfully. It must be a real chore to have a duo ease into matters, especially considering that neither one was an athlete.
Rizzuto and White were a great listen, sometimes a panic. Bill White was the strategist then.
A very good 'interim' team was Hank Greenwald and Tommy Hutton. A pro announcer and a former pro ballplayer. They called the game, period ; no histrionics or stupid nicknames.
Lately though, there are just too many names being flung at the wall.
Andy Musser of the Phillies and Bob Murphy doing the Mets were neutral in a way, but HAPPY, feel-good sense. Check out Musser's PBP call of Pete Maravich's 68-point game against the Knicks if you're interested in Musser's Versatility.
P.S. I'm a Mets fan who has come to follow and root for both clubs since their basement co-op days of 1966.
the only thing that Sterling should stay away from for the rest of his life is doing the Kitten Bowl - he did that for a few years on Animal Planet (I think with Beth Stern?) - UGH!I can't say I'm a fan of Sterling as a baseball announcer, especially in the No. 1 market. I'd think the Yankees would want the best and he isn't. But I rather liked him ages ago when he called the Islanders on radio. Recently I stumbled on his DJing an hour of Siriusly Sinatra. I have no idea when it was recorded, or how many takes were needed, but he sounded great.
