Yankees were on 1010 WINS for three seasons

I've seen several references here to the Mets and WCBC 880 Radio this week, in light of Monday's news.

As a reminder to the Old-Timers, and as an FYI to my younger brethren, the Yankees were on 1010 WINS from 1978-1980. They had previously been on WMCA, and moved to WABC in 1981.

That was back in the "Bronx Zoo" days, when guys like Reggie, Munson (who died in August 1979), Randolph, Guidry, Nettles, Chambliss, Gossage, Piniella, Dent and so many others played for the team. And George Steinbrenner ruled with an iron hand.

The Yankees radio announcers at the time were Phil Rizzuto, Bill White, Frank Messer and Fran Healy.

I don't think that 1010 WINS has ever pivoted away from All News All the Time since that three-year period.

The All News All The Time moniker gave a woman an idea to sue the radio station as it was not all news all time. This did not stop WINS from doing the games as they dropped the Yankees to concentrate more on developing news stories in the metropolitan area.
