'Yard Sale in Olean

What's the "WNGZ 880" AM station in Community's Elmira-market portfolio? That's bizarre. I'm sure the presence of an AM on 880 will come as startling news to Saga's WHCU 870, about 25 miles up Route 13 in Ithaca.

RCS, catching the reporting gaff. 1490 WRCE (formerly WGMF) simulcasts Classic Rock 104.9 WNGZ Elmira, except in racing season. WWLZ is on 820, certainly not 880, which as you note would certainly raise eyebrows in Ithaca... to say nothing of New York. Some posters might remember the FCC years ago assigning 820 to Buffalo for minority broadcasters (protecting WBAP Dallas-Ft. Worth.) It was never applied for/constructed. The Canadians swooped in and the freq was assigned to Hamilton, Ontario. As to Elmira-Corning, IMHO, BYB should have flipped the Country and CHR formats, Country going to the big signal on 106.1 and CHR going to the 100.9 frequency. It will be interesting to see how the new owners assess the signals and billing potential in E-C market.
