Yay! Weather Updates!

Submit this article as a reflection of what's wrong with today's corporate ownership of radio and how the FCC pretty much gives the Big Cs a pass on ownership rules. WQQK 92Q is supposed to be isolated in a trust along with i106, because with the Citadel buyout, Cumulus had too many stations in Nashville (of course, it was originally WRQQ in the trust instead of 92Q, but Cumulus can amazingly swap out stations at will). Yet here is 92Q as part of a group deal brokered by Cumulus, when the station should be outside of Cumulus' influence while in trust. What's more, there's no mention in the article of Volt or about 92Q being part of the trust, and the implication is that 92Q is just as much a Cumulus Media station as the others.

Before the sale, the FCC indicated it wanted the spinoff stations to be divested out of Cumulus' hands "sooner rather than later." This article seemingly either shows the FCC to be all bark and no bite, or that Cumulus laughs at the FCC all the way to the bank, or both. Of course, Cumulus can do this because the FCC is allowing them to do it, I'm just sayin', this is not the way it should be.

And it's not just in radio. big corporations get away with a lot. They have people paid to cover their butts. Experienced firsthand here.

It is amazing. You'd think the DC anti-trust suits and monopoly laws would not allow such cases of blatant co-marketing, but when you write the laws you always get to break the laws (or pick and choose when and what to enforce.) The word "trust" should be illegal for both the FCC and Corruptulus. Good news is that no matter how many stations they "own" in a market, even if it's
all of them, they'll all fall out of the Top 10...

Either my math is bad...or the "Big C's" own 8 out of the top 10 stations in Nashville. Again, I work in radio, so it's probably my math. Lol

Billy - sorry - I wasn't trashing you guys (CC) at all on this. I meant that even IF Crums owns every station in the market (100%) they'd pretty much figure out a way to not have even one of their stations in the Top 10. Guess that joke didn't make much sense or get any ratings, either. And I also attempted to poke a little, uh, fun (relative) to the discussion...by thinking that now that "they" have taken over 103 and 104, they will probably decrease their prior success and drop them below the Top 10. Happy New Year!

Thanks for clearing that up for me...my reading skills are obviously as bad as my math. :) Happy New Year to you, too!

I don't think that'll make any difference...

...as anyone who's lived in Nashville for at least 30 years *knows* channel 4 & WSM Radio are still the same company..... (but what's this newfangled FM thing?)

Takes me back to Vol State in a radio production class and some of us were talking about how we sucked in math. I said, well I made a D in math and Mr. E said "You're a comm. student" Granted I can run a tight board and do a good airshift, but that always made me laugh. I did good in many of my radio classes though.

I know you were joking...but for the 22 years I worked at the AM...there wasn't a week that went by that someone didn't call as ask to speak to Dan, or Bill or one of the TV folks. Many times it was information that gave them our number

But Billy....how'd you do in English? That's the one that got by sons.
