Yeah, but will advertisers support Rush Radio?

Rush radio might get the ratings, but will advertisers support HATE radio? I don't think they will. Of course there will be a few, but lots of businesses know the volatility of that kind of programming and steer clear. Many big ad agencies have stipulations on their insertion orders that they don't want their commercials anywhere near Rush. Clear Channel might find itself with a bit fat white elephant! A big fat Oxycontin-addicted white elephant. ;D
Sorry, I hate insulting the elephant like that! ;)

Ignoring the "hate radio" part which I still can't figure out (we dislike you just as much as you dislike us... how Randi Rhodes isn't hate radio but Rush is I will never understand) I ask this question... How are you figuring that simply moving a show from AM to FM devalues it? WPTF is a cash cow, and at least some of that can be attributed to Rush.

I think its funny that many complain about radio in this market that is boring, canned, etc..yet Rush actually gets you going..and you attack him, when he actually is the most entertaining thing on! Hate radio? don't think so.....spoken like someone who doesn't listen to his show...

Hate radio?? It's evident that this person doesn't listen to Rush. Listen to Randi Rhodes and listen to Rush. I think Randi takes the cake on this one hands down. I remember a few years ago somebody asked Whoopi why she hates Rush and had she ever listened to his show. She said she had never listened to his show and never would. Then the interviewer said "if you don't listen to Rush how can you form an opinion that he pumps out hate" and she said people have told her. Huh?

Meanwhile, does anyone remember Whoopi's own radio show? Ironically, that was also under the Premiere/CC syndication hub...

2010 is an Election Year.

Look for all the Election Ads to go there. Then they will go after the 2012 Election Ads.

It's going to get nasty; but think of the cash flow.

Also Rush delivers a very large audience to the program in afternoon drive. Its up to the local station to attempt to hold on to that audience whatever way they can. That's why I never could understand why WSJS put Beth Ann McBride in the afternoon slot several years ago. Rush gave her a large audience and she did eveything she could to drive it away. I've always wondered if putting her in the afternoon was a local management decision or from higher up. Of course this was in the days before CMG when the station was owned by CBS. This also proves that large broadcast companies make stupid mistakes.

Conservative Talk radio gets ratings. Fox News channel has ten times the audience of MSNBC. For whatever reason, these facts are not in dispute.

Radio is about ratings and revenue. Operators who think their political view is the driving force and make their decisions based on the fail. Ask anybody who put "air america" on.

Calling Rush "hate radio" is simplistic, childish and irrelevant to the discussion. Rush WILL get ratings, and will generate revenue.

Many people fail to understand that Rush is an "entertainer". What he says on the radio is designed to illicit response and it works. He is a master of using commentary to at once enflame and entertain.

As broadcasters we make decisions about programming based on giving the audience what they want for the most part, or we lose. It is not our job to impose our political views on them. There are plenty of examples of that being done and failing miserably.

Thinking that Rush won't work is just wishful thinking by people who disagree with him.

I don't agree with much of what he says...but I sure do respect him as an entertainer. You cannot argue with his success.

Well, President Obama did say one time that Fox News "operates like a talk radio format," so technically, there's not much to dispute.

That would be it. AKA what happens when salesmen (GM's) make programming decisions based on their own likes, as opposed to experience or research.

N.C. is not your traditional southern state. With one democrat senator, 8 democrat congressmen out of 13, a democrat governor and far more democrat mayors than republicans I don't know how you can say the state is "SUPER conservative." That is just not true Mr. Doe. South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, sure. Not North Carolina.

The new CC talkers will get ratings. It would be hard to do any worse than the current formats on 94.5 and 106.1, but don't bet against the Curtis sales machine. And don't overestimate advertiser support for the new format.

I say that because I lived there for years and saw it firsthand. The people of that state are VERY small town and closed minded when it comes to most issues. There's nothing wrong with that at all...in fact the people will probably eat up the stuff CC will be putting on FM. I'm not talking Democrat or Republican...I'm talking about THE SINS OF GAMBLING...THE SCOURGE OF THE HARD LIKKER....AND ...OH MYYY...DANCIN GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole state? You met them? Wow.

Musta been a while back, before all The Other Place People moved in.

They think in real broad terms a lot too.

Raleigh is not like the rest of the state.  I don't necessarily mean that as a bad thing, I'm just stating it as fact.  The people that johnqdoe speak of no longer make up the majority of the Triangle (I don't know about the Triad).

Someone brought up something that I forgot about when I made my original post in this thread... the Curtis Sales Machine. The same money won't be made.

I think you hayseeds were overlooking one major point Atticus made and that is: MANY agency driven advertisers avoid political and "controversial" programs like the Limbaugh Plague. You can argue over the "place" of such programming all day but when Coca Cola or Lowes Home Improvment sends an avail and it says "no controversial programming, i.e. Rush Limbaugh", you're ace talk star alienated you from that large pot of $. The flip side of that is businesses like the law offices of Dewey, Cheatem & How will become new radio users which is good for everyone but the amount of coin local guys will spend vs. the big boys pales in comparison. Point is, the programming is just dandy and might even get some descent numbers but the real sell for this will be local. If that's the case the real discussion should be is their sales staff capable of hitting main street to make it work? How many sellers do they have in GSO now that they fired everyone in Jan?

Now where's that punk Bee-yatch Ape to offer his mindless ramblings. His DJ shift at the Waffle House should be over around 2am... :-*
