Jacksonville Radio Station 93.3 FM WROO has gone Christmas!

On November 6th, 2007, at 12Noon EST, WROO 93.3 FM began broadcasting

“Continuous Christmas Classics.” This means that Jacksonville now has a station delivering a unique holiday-themed musical presentation 24/7 throughout the season.

Gail Austin, Director of Programming and Operations for Clear Channel Radio’s Jacksonville cluster, cited research that indicated Jacksonville area radio listeners craved a destination for holiday favorites.

The station features traditional festive music from artists like Gene Autry, Nat King Cole, & Bing Crosby as well as contemporary artists like Amy Grant, Rascal Flatts, & Michael Bolton. “Something for everyone!” said Austin.

Any guesses on how long it will be until 96.1 unleashes Santa upon Jax as well?

It's the beginning of the end for The Rooster.....JW

Well I hope Lite goes Christmas ASAP or otherwise the numbers may not be so Cheerful this season....I think that WROO come Christmas night will either become home of WJBT 93.3 The Beat....or could we actually see them take on the Oldies/Classic Hits???? But I think it prob safe enough to assume that Rooster played its last song as a country station forever as of November 6th, 2007. The station has gone for dead and Santa is going to use this tatic to prepare for a new format.

In the best way possible I think...I think there has to be cheers going on over at Gator & Renda right now....The Rooster is coming to an end. YAY finally....now can we have our COOL FM back please????.....BTW They are not even calling it The Rooster..its just 93.3...def a sign of a format change coming soon.

December 26 will be interesting for sure. I'll be out of town then to witness what eventually happens but I doubt oldies will return. And I hope I'm 100% wrong. That format has potential - especially with the high concentration of 70s music- perfect to deliver 35+. But is CC interested in going after this demo? I don't know but if oldies do return my feeling is it would not be called Cool anything.

With Rooster in the 1 shares, their expected demise would not be a big impact to WQIK or Gator so I'd think the cheers at Renda would be subdued at best. They are no doubt thinking what is logical for CC to do.

I can't see CC really letting go of the Beat - it's a winner, it makes money and the demos are young. Fresh is doing very well in a lot of markets and is attracting good numbers from heritage AC. If CC were to flip to WROO to another music format, I'd think Fresh would be better odds than oldies.

It could be possible they decide to simulcast The Fox and or sell off the AM - at this point almost anything is possible but it's good to see something will happen. Discuss.

Who Gains From WROO Format Change?

A quick peek at the data on WROO (A25-54, full week)

they had less than a two in all each of the last four quarters,

WQIK has gotten the majority of shared listnening,
usually over half the WROO audience,

so figure its a point to WQIK and the crumbs to WGNE

hardly enough to matter to either

I can tune in on the JAX receiver. Blah. (dxtuners.com)

Sorry to hear that you guys, the pensacola/FWB market is still "normal"

but your right that almost means a format change (but not always)

Can someone tell me if the jocks have been shown the door or not? On the website it shows no jocks at all....if the jocks have been shown the door then we know spin the format wheel is in play.

This is bad news for my cousin, who it seemed was Rooster's final loyal listener. She screamed "noooo!" when I told her the rumors circling (about 93.3 The Beat) a few months back. Haven't heard from her yet about the Christmas music. Maybe I'll let her enjoy it. hahaha

It seems like yesterday when Ashley West was crowing to me how she and the ROO crew were kicking QIK butt in several areas. But that was about 9-10 years ago, before the CC/Jacor deal sort of eliminated the competition, shall we say. It's sad on many levels, but that's business.

From what I heard, it was 100 percent automation. Nothing but automation. If the jocks were given the boot, then you can expect a format change come jan.

What about a morning programme or are they airing "rick and bubba" or some satellite fed service?

Rob, is that station bouncing all the way into into Navarre??? Impressive. They must be at least 300,000 watts.

wow....Ashely West....didn't she used to work at the traffic center....your right...been a long time since I've heard that name....at least 9 years

Keep this is in mind...the last song played by Rooster as country music is Little Texas' "What Might Have Been".....if that song is a clue...the Rooster died on November 6th, 2007 at 12pm basically.

As far as loosing talent, no one really "lost" jobs.
Morning was that syndicated trash from nashville, big d and bubba.
Middays were VT by a promo girl.
Afternoons were VT.
Evenings VT.
Overnights, you guessed it, VT.

The only thing is maybe some people are making 150.00 bucks less a week.

Yep, Ashley West/Taylor Philips was all over the place in a short period. We were both at UNF's radio station, and she did assorted work for Paxson and also the TraffiCenter. Then--small world--she was the operator for a wrestling talk show that I ended up co-hosting for a time, and she got me an interview as a potential traffic reporter. Somehow MY schedule was too restrictive for them, though! ;-)

I remember she had that Ralph Edwards thing going on with her delivery. She sounded so happy, like on the verge of laughter.

As for the final lineup of Rooster, if it's true that it was all VT and everyone's still around and spared of a holiday bloodbath, great.

god i love trolls.

as i repeat myself from earlier, i heard the station from the JAX node on dxtuners.
(and a 300,000 watt signal wouldn't reach this far, either)

so none of the staff has been canned, what's the scoop are they manning the mics or been put on temporary hiatus?

That's not a line-up..that's a station on life-support! ::)
