Yelm AM CP - for sale

Jackson Dell Weaver said:
Sadly, no way to get it built in time IMHO.

A new owner might qualify for an extension on the CP. The FCC has done that in the past. At the same time I'm not sure why anyone would build an AM that only covers Yelm. It's a three tower directional 10kW daytime and 6kW nightime. There does not appear to be much room to move it to another site if the present site is no longer available. This is probably a good deal for someone wanting to flush lots of cash down the toilet really quickly.

Agreed. Nighttime would be KILLED by KPNW. Land for AM towers is at a premium (and Andy Skotdal can tell you all about the JOY of NIMBYs and environmentalist yay-hoos. But hey, if Walmart built a FAR more environmentally disastrous outsized concrete box there - with a Starbucks, guess who'd be first in line for the free opening day lattes.....)

What are these people thinking?!? Basically is a stand alone 50 kw daytimer.
Cost lots-o-money to plan/build/operate.
We have one of those here that's silent again.
One that didn't get built and went away.
And two more CPs for ok daytime but bad night-time signals ready to be built.

There's that flushing sound.

As Bob Newhart would say -- "you want to go with that ???" What 5tations are you talking about ?? What location ?? The Yelm CP is only a 5 KW Days -- 600 watts night -- CP. In the Puget Sound area -- there are a dozen clear channel stations. (not full time -- but at least Daytime). Some started out as low powered - daytimers -- like the Burien 820 station - formerly 500 watts on 800.

The construction permit you can view in the CDBS says 10 kw day, 6 kw night.

While on paper they cover their intended "city of license" in reality this 1120 will get pounded from an hour our two before sunset until an hour or two after sunrise. Some winter days KPNW will cover them most of the day.

The dismissed "HILL & GLOVER" app was for 50kw day/ 2.5kw night.

5, 10. or 50, why would you want to build a "day timer" in these times even in a major market. Almost every week somebody turns in an AM license to be canceled.

You have a point. My bad on saying that the Yelm CP was only for 5 KW D + 600 Watts Nights. It is in fact -- a 10 KW Days + 6 KW Nights -- DA-1 patten with 3 towers of less than 200 feet tall. However -- KPNW 's signal is "nulled" toward the north enough to allow the Yelm station "protection". A ten KW signal Days will cover alot of the area. And a 6 KW night signal will keep KPNW from comming in at night. The engineers at H+D did a good job on this one. It could work well. But it takes alot of cash to build an AM station as well as time. This station would be a great true "local" station that would cover the rural Thurston, Pirece and Lewis County area. Put a "nostalgia" format on the air and it could make cash.
As far as owners "turning in AM licenses" -- only about 25 AM stations per year are deleted. 25 out of some 4500 AM stations is not bad. Just poor business.

KPNW's 2000 mV/M/1km to 3000 mV/m/1km towards Yelm is not a null.
31.1 mV/m NIF (interferance free night-time coverage) is terrible. Doesn't even cover all of Yelm at night.
