Yes, ABC Family Channel Is Airing "Coyote Ugly"

Yes, the movie is rated PG-13. But it's based on a popular bar chain in which bartenders have been known to dance on top of the tables, and perhaps do much, much worse. (I know; I've been to their flagship NYC location many times.)

Hear that? That's the cable system in Salt Lake City blocking out the ABC Family Channel.

I thought that was Pat Robertson filing a cease and desist order blocking ABC Family from carrying any more non-family programming.

ABC Family has a series about high school teens. And its all about sex and teens having babies. How can this be any worse?

As for this movie it has been show on USA and I think VH-1.

I believe only "Grease" has aired on more basic cable networks - including all three of the aforementioned! Heck, I think it even showed up on Comedy Central once!

I think "Goodfellas" has aired on ABCFam as well. If not "Goodfellas," it was some other fairly violent drama that really had no business on such a station.

But I guess they edited out a lot of content so that they could sell more ad$.

More proof that there are too many overlapping cable channels. The (insert name) Family channel should have been folded years ago by ABC. BTW, Coyote Ugly is a dog of a movie.

I remember ABC Family Channel (when it was know as the Fox Family Channel) airing the 1994 thriller "Speed".

You put the cart before the horse- the chain of bars is based on the movie- not the other way around.

Regardless of what happens at the bars, which more than likely aren't frequented by viewers of ABC Family, the movie itself is rather tame (unless you're offended by LeAnne Rimes pop hits).

A lot of their programming aimed at teens is quite uncomfortable to their parents.
They have not actually been a "family" channel for quite some time.

I guess Pat Robertson is too busy making bizarre predictions to complain.

Apparently as long as they stick with the contract and carry "The 700 Club" and leave "Family" in the name, Pat will not mind what airs on ABC Family.

I remember FOX Family would air something before a show or movie rated PG or higher. Saying time to put the kids to bed or something like that.

They aired SoulFood when it was under FOX and if you see it on HBO or Showtime its not a family movie. ABC Family sucks just like ABC primetime.

The movie was released in 2000, seven years after the establishment broke ground:

And you'd be surprised at how many tourists the downtown NYC location has drawn over the years.

Sorry, I misspoke, as I knew the movie was based on the NYC location. I was referring to the chain as a whole, which has grown most likely due to the success of the movie.

I have been puzzled by ABC's movie choices for "ABC Family" for years. Does branding mean nothing? Very curious.

G4 i believe shows movies , syfy shows a cooking show and wrestling, cmt shows married with children, history channel shows ice road truckers and VH1 and MTV left music videos years ago for reality shows.it seems branding is a thing of the past.

It's an evolution of the branding. 15 years ago the club where I work Illusions in Wolcott, CT was exclusively a Country bar. For the past 6 or 7 years they've changed it up and play 65% Non-Country Music to 35% Country. Non-Country music includes: Top 40, Classic/Southern Rock, Hip-Hop, Techno, Reggaeton, etc. It's still Illusions with the mechanical bull, the Nascar Posters, the line dancing, etc, but it's an evolution of the Illusions Brand.

Really? I would expect CMT to carry a new reality series with a "country-fied" Al Bundy character before his classic series.

For the record, though, CMT has carried shows like Dukes of Hazzard, and other bizarre reality series... and, of course, the movie "Coyote Ugly."

Abc "family" is not really a family channel anymore. Abc is known for changing the line ups and focus of programming befor they change the names of the cabel services. We may see abc changing the name if the new programming wins in the timeslots, if not we could see another change.

They're known for it? Like...um....what, once with officially changing the name of Toon Disney to Disney XD, which was more a minor adjustment based on the popular programming?

They have no reason to change the name. Ratings have improved with the original programming (regardless if some people think it should still be mired in the past), and the brand identity being tied to the well known ABC name is a positive attribute for them.

We "may" see them turning it into an all square dancing cable network. But I wouldn't hold my breath for that, or some name change.
