According to the playlist listings on Yes.com, WEZF-92.9 in Burlington went all-Christmas around 6 A.M. this morning (November 14th).

Why? So that people who don't care about holiday tunes in the middle of November can turn to MP103 for the next month and a half? Does CC not realize that they no longer have a monopoly on adult contemporary radio in Burlington?

By GOD Gale!! So Soon!? Target and WalMart haven't even hung the wreaths yet and there you are playing the Mariah Carey Christmas CD already! Even the moose must be going mad up there! Is there even a Target up there yet? Who knows. Thank God I'm not working in that building anymore because if I had to spend the next five weeks listening to Christmas music I'd be even more miserable than you remember (even if it was an act). Give your jocks a raise and a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue first thing tomorrow morning because they will need all of it for the next few weeks to blur the sounds of retail. Because it all comes down to the fact that nothing makes the holidays easier for you, and your loved ones, than a little "scotch". Happy Holidays you old dog! Cheers!

Post Xmas Country

Clear Channel knows Country. Don'tcha think they've watched Hall gobble up all those share and all those dollars a little too long? With WEZF's huge signal, and CC's format knowledge, they'll smoke 'em in two books.

Hmm...now that would be an interesting gamble. Keep in mind that Capstar tried this in 1998-1999 with Kix 96.7. It wasn't a terrible station, but just couldn't compete against a heritage 100K stick.

Of course, this still begs the question of why CC continues to waste 96.7 (which isn't their worst stick) with a talk station that's already on 960. I'd love to know why they do that.

Re: Post Xmas Country

Gamble? Hell, the gamble is sitting still with a 5 share while WOKO racks up a 24 without serious competition (with all due respect--none--to NEBCO). Technically 'EZF is the only stick capable of taking down 'OKO.

Capstar? Oh, I remember them. In fact I got a few paychecks from them during their brief but glorious life as "the guys gathering up stations for Lowry." What a scam. Trafficking, I think it's called. The problem was that while us peons thought they were really trying to do radio, all they were doing was scooping up real estate for a quick re-sale to CC. Kix doesn't count. Ancient, weird, history by now!

Lots of offices in Chittenden and Franklin counties seem to crank up Cool 105 in the office. Lots of other places have flipped off Star because of the Christmas music. This move may play out in other larger markets where there is lots of radio choices, but in Burlington the choices are relatively slim.

Calling 96.7 a waste, I disagree. Although 960 is not a bad place to be on the AM dial, most of that signal does not go far into VT. Both signals together take advantage of the other's geographical weaknesses. 96.7 does not come in well in the Plattsburgh area.

I GET THE BIGGEST CHUCKLE OUT OF THIS SAME STUPID TYPE OF POST...WHICH SHOWS UP IN THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER EVERY SINGLE YEAR!

RADIO STATIONS THAT SWITCH TO "AN ALL CHRISTMAS FORMAT" (for roughly 4-7 weeks) KNOW THEY'LL GET A FEW NEW LISTENERS WHO WILL APPRECIATE THE MUSIC. A FEW NEW ADVERTISERS ALSO APPRECIATE "THE EXTRA DOLLARS" THOSE NEW LISTENERS (MIGHT) SPEND?

WHAT EVERYBODY SEEMS TO FORGET IS THAT CONTINUOUS CHRISTMAS MUSIC IS NOT "MUST-LISTEN-TO-RADIO!" BUT I GUESS IT'S MORE FUN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT THAN SWITCH TO ANOTHER STATION, HUH?

I'm pretty sure I already suggested that people would change the station. But thanks for calling my post "stupid" anyway. In either case, I don't give a damn, since I don't live in Burlington anymore.
