Yes.com: WLYT May Have Flipped To 24/7 Christmas

Last weekend (Novemebr 4th-6th), both WLYT-102.9 and WKQC-104.7 went all-Christmas for the weekend, but went back to their regular Adult Contempoary formats with the start of the new week.

According to the playlists on Yes.com, WLYT-102.9 has apparently gone all-Christmas.

At 2:49 P.M. EST today (November 11th), the station played Garth Brooks' version of "White Christmas", and at this writing (3 P.M. EST), the Yes.com playlist for WLYT shows that the station has been all-Christmas ever since.

By contrast, WKQC-104.7 is still (as of just before 3 P.M. EST) programming their regular AC format, but their website has an all-Christmas look. But I'd suspect WKQC will quickly follow suit. They did last week for a "preview" weekend.

Given the calendar, I suspect WLYT is all-Christmas for the duration. And WKQC probably follow suit soon.
 
WKQC started Christmas music at, I believe, at 5PM according to YES. That's strange! I figured that K104.7 would have started at 3PM to start competing with Lite's "Christmas Preview" weekend this weekend *(see update below). Personally, I don't think that both of them will stay all-Christmas after Monday. Last year, both stations waited until sometime around 11-17 I believe. But, that is fairly close, so the two might make the switch permanant.

We'll see!!

WLYT.com shows a banner headed "WE'RE ALL CHRISTMAS" with a picture of a Christmas tree saying "Lite102.9 is now playing 100% Christmas Music! Tell a friend!"

I'm actually surprised WLYT and WKQC both waited until today (November 11th).

A few weeks ago, I honestly believed that there would be a wave of early all-Christmas flips (perhaps 100 stations) on November 1st. I am surprised that only a few stations actualy ended up doing it that early.
 
Update Based On Yes.com Playlist Listings

According to Yes.com's playlist listings, WLYT-102.9 went back to it's regular AC format last night (November 13th) just before 12 Midnight.

But it didn't stay AC for long. It went back to all-Christmas (again according to Yes.com) at 11:58 A.M. EST this morning (November 14th).

After being all-Christmas for the weekend, Yes.com showed that WKQC-104.7 also went back to their regular AC format around Midnight last night.

At 12:20 P.M. EST, Yes.com showed that WKQC played Johnny Mathis' "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. But according to Yes.com, their next song was not a Christmas song.

If both stations went all-Christmas for the weekend, what would motivate WLYT (and maybe WKQC) to go back to their "normal" format for twelve hours and then go back to being all-Christmas??

I don't think either station knows what they want to do. When I get use to hearing the Christmas tunes, Lite 102.9 and K-104.7 switch back to normal programming. Either play the Christmas music or don't! Make a decision! The air talent probably pack their Santa hat every day just in case they might be playing holiday tunes.

And Yes.com reports that WLYT went back to AC around 1 P.M. EST (November 14th).

This is an amazing game of "Cat and Mouse", and in my opinion, is a new low in radio programming. Either take the plunge and go all-Christmas or don't and just play some occassional Christmas songs!

Checking up on the playlists of both stations as posted on Yes.com, it appears
that both stations went all-Christmas again at 7 P.M. EST this evening (November 14th).

In the three and a half hours since (I'm writing this message shortly after 10:30 P.M. EST), both stations have been all-Christmas. Maybe this time, it's for keeps......or maybe not.

I don't think the listeners are confused. The people here are ACTIVE listeners and thank God for you! Most people just stop on the station that is playing a song they like at the time.

The past two years jumping into 100% Christmas music has done well for both stations. Each one wants the title of "The Christmas Station" but I guess they are both sensitive to the comments about going into 100% Christmas mode too early. It should be obvious that both stations are listening to each other.

Look at it this way you are talking about what these two stations are doing...so they are creating a buzz, free publicity!

Isn't Delialah all Christmas music? Her program run on WLYT beginning at 7 weeknights. Maybe WKQC is playing Christmas music while Delilah is on!?!?! Personally, I am glad they haven't flipped yet. I honestly wish one of the two would stay AC and the other go Christmas. But, I guess it's about the cash$$$$$$

I used to get tired of hearing non-stop Christmas tunes for six straight weeks. But I've begun to re-think my position recently. If the ACLU (American Communist Lawyers Union) and other anti-Christian whiners get their way (and eventually they will), anything and everything that even remotely recognizes Christianity will be banned from all of American society. Lowe's, Target and numerous other big chains are already deliberately omitting the word "Christmas" from all of their store promotions and advertising. Yes, they still carry products that say or mention "Christmas" but they refuse to use the word in any of their advertising. They do this in the name of being "open-minded".

Bottom line: I'm enjoying being able to hear CHRISTmas music on the airwaves before the Michael Newdow types take it away from us.
