Yes Weekly Best local DJ

I saw where some guy from Wolf 93.1 garnered top honors, in the words of Dana Carvey's Church Lady, isn't that special!

But what I found more telling is that Josh Neas from WQFS placed 2nd, and it's not like he went into overdrive promoting it, nor did he attempt to put together a ballot box stuffing campaign. This just proves once again how much 'commercial' radio has burned out their audience.

Sure lots more ears are tuned into the commerical outlets compared to the college stations, but there is ZERO passion in the audience anymore. This is because all efforts have been made by this industry to take the personality out of radio, but like many have said on this board alone, personality is what makes the difference between just listening to songs and being engaged and entertained. Why do you think talk radio has taken off like it has in the past 20yrs, because it is the only genre left that allows for personality.

In a nutshell this is what happens to industries that put their faith in consultants and suspect market reseach. So much effort has been made to avoid tune outs that no one is really tuned in anymore.

There was NO Vote Count in this "survey".

These things are easy to game. If you read the entire article, you could get the feeling that actual vote counts might have been in the teens.

We could do the same here; but the board counts views and IP addresses - making it difficult to game.

This might also be a good indicator of the readership of YES magazine. I'm sure goodtimesandgreatoldies must not read this particular paper, if he/she/it did, one of the people from that now defunct oldies station 94.1 would have come out on top after goodtimes ect ect stuffed the ballot box. I sure do miss hearing all those great burnt out oldies on my fm radio.

Ok...they did notate that the 2GNC had their votes split 23 Kelley 9 Demm.

I think that you are missing my point, commercial radio is failing to provide programming and personalities that are compelling, because the consultant feels it is better to run those 300 burnt out oldies/classic rock tracks or the same handful of tunes that top 40 or whatever it wants to call itself now runs into the ground along with jocks who sound like they have zero connection anymore with the material or the audience.

Not every person who filled out the ballot voted in every catagory, then even noted the biggest block of voting was for best hairdresser, which should tell you even more, if more people are compelled to vote for their favorite stylists than for best radio DJ that is proof positive that radio, for lack of better terminology, has become stagnant and boring.

However when you think about it, the industry is just reaping what they sow. If you pander to the lowest common denominator musically and cut corners with Voice tracking and putting a lid on any creative content making everything from every company sound the same then you wind up providing something without entertainment much less artisitic merit.

I have to totally agree with ccv97!!!!! Congrats to the Wolf for winning@@!!!!! If more stations worked as hard and spent the kind of time on stationality and personality, the industry would not be in any trouble. Thanks to cc79 for bringing this to everyone's attention. If I was Cc409 and nobody voted for me, I'd be as bitter as a recycled peanut myself, but it takes a big person to stand up and say that the guy on the Wolf deserved to win. Now, if Raleigh can get QDR to sound good, we'll be stuffing some boxes!!!!!!!!!! ;D :D :)
