Yesterday's Amber Alert

I'm sure most of you heard about the case with Michael Whalen. I was flipping the radio dial, and I heard this Amber Alert on 3 different radio stations yesterday afternoon. I think it was the same one on all 3. They were WWFX, WCRB, and WPLM. Do you know if all stations in the Boston/NH market aired this?

Where the heck were you located that you could tune in WWFX, WCRB and WPLM at the same time?

WPLM is a local primary (LP) for the South Shore and an EAS relay for the Cape stations...so by definition they'd be airing it. Technically, WZBC and WBRS both should've aired it, too. I know their EAS's *were* set up for automatic forwarding of AMBER alerts, and I assume neither station has changed that.

I'd say that he could be just about anywhere in Metro West. Hopkinton is one spot where all would probably come in ok. I've gotten all three pretty well in Westford and Acton and those places are pretty far for "the Pike" and WPLM. So, anyplace along 495 to the south of there should be fair game. Maybe even Natick too.

It seemed like WBCN was airing this alert every fifteen minutes.

It was statewide because WAQY-FM and WHYN-FM in Springfield (Rock 102 and The New Mix 93.1, respectively) both ran this alert. I heard it on WAQY first

This morning on KISS they said they aired it 12 times yesterday. I heard it on Mix around 6:00PM.

i have to say that was probably THE MOST effective amber alert i've seen.

it was on the radio. on tv immediately. my MYSPACE had it posted (on a side note, congrats to myspace for posting amber alerts in the first place, as they cause 37% of them)

I am glad it was as effective as it was. As broadcasters, there should be no question about "over-running" Amber Alerts, severe weather alerts or anyhitng else that better serves the community.

The announcement I heard was from Julie Devereaux last night around..7pm-ish?? 8pm-ish?? She mentioned that the Amber Alert had been issued and went through all the details. At the time, I was driving home on the Mass Pike and all those electronic message signs along the highway were "advertising" the Amber Alert as well.

Yet another example how legitimate broadcasters serve the community
at large. I would bet the rent check that none of the pirates participated
in the action...
