Yet Another AM Oldies Station

The Daily News (NYC) reports that WNNJ is becoming WTOC, carrying Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel.

Why the surge all of a sudden in New Jersey oldies radio?

It really wouldn't matter if one AM station in every town
in New Jersey went to oldies. They serve the local listeners
and advertisers. Oldies is the "MOR" of the 2000's. Let's
face it, only people over 60 are inclined to listen to music
on AM, so give them music they like. Only radio geeks and
DXers know there is a similar format somewhere else in the
state.

Because WNNJ didn't make any money playing country music.

Just be thankful it didn't go all-brokered (yet).

This change actually took effect two weeks ago.

As an aside, I'm surprised the calls weren't snapped up by an existing True Oldies station before now.
