Yet another KYKX post

Has anyone subjected themselves to KYKX recently? The processing sounds really, really flat. I'm not in to the whole engineering thing, but the processing is so weak that it sounds like its an equipment problem rather than a tweak of the settings. Anyone know whats up?

Lack of interest, commitment, caring, focus, planning, maintenence... I could go on and on, but I think the point is that Access 1 just seems to be interested in how many stations they have, to hell with the fact that KYKX is just a meare image of its former self.

It's really a joke that is not really all that funny anymore, just really sad.

Wow! Access 1 sounds like Cumulus Broadcasting.

I've noticed it too. It's really bad, but I can't imagine Access 1 not caring about how it sounds. KYKX is trying. They have new jingles, music is more on target, and they are running a major smear campaign on KNUE. I would hope that they just have a piece of equipment out and are waiting for a replacement or repair.

Their engineers are busy trying to build the new studios for the rest of the Access 1 bunch in downtown Tyler, so it may just be taking them a while to address the problem.

Yeah...nearly fell out of the truck when I heard that.

So where will the new digs be???????

Somewhere in downtown Tyler...right on the square I think.

For once, you and I agree! Kudos!

They're ragging on KNUE saying that they (KNUE) can't keep up with the news because "well....they just can't." to quote the liner.

KYKX is trying to emphasize the "live and local" element with it. It just sounded so odd that they called KNUE out, so to speak, on it. Seemed petty to me. I was taught not to publicly slam the competition because it would make me look bad...but I guess that's just me.

No it's not you, it's called "professionalism". KYKX is in a panic disorder state knowing they are failing to attract an audience. Rather than hire better talent and putting money into the station, distract attention from yourself and attack others knowing they are light years better than you. That way you will be fed a steady diet of eating your own words when the ratings come out.

Access1 repeatedly has shown a gross lack of class in several of its actions since the buyout. Doing an open slam on KNUE simply is another instance, and it'll be far from the last. The new owners are desperate and in a panic. Their actions will only drive away more listeners.

KKBQ does the same thing with KILT-FM here in Houston. It just is so unprofessional to directly mention your competition, not to mention it gives them a plug. What's the old saying, "Bad publicity is better than none at all." If I were KNUE/CC, I'd send KYKX/Access-1 a fruit basket, and tell 'em "Thanks for the free advertising!"

This is how KYKX can beat KNUE. Go back into the vault, find some tapes of KYKX from about 15-20 years ago, and listen good. It was GREAT small market radio. The promotions and marketing for that station was second-to-none. Under Sun's ownership, KYKX flourished! Get rid of Dru and the rest of the glorified "yes" men, corporate kiss-asses, and bring in some people that want to make KYKX a quality radio station and a market leader again. KNUE is not a hard target to beat. It's not like CC is doing anything spectacular there. Neither is The Bull.

Everything you say here is right on the mark. In its early years KYKX was the epitome of a country blow torch. Access1 could indeed learn from some 32 year old air checks, but the company's people see themselves as big city types, too full of themselves to benefit in any way from the past, highly lucrative operation of a country station in the wilds of East Texas. The only differences are-- (1) then, 1973, a history-making operation run by a shrewd owner, (2) now, 2005, a wasted shell of a station brought down by poor management and neglect, (3) it's STILL a country station in the wilds of East Texas, but now not worthy of the new owners lowering themselves to give it any care and attention.

Bottom line--Access1 has done a total FUBAR on the station. Granted, it had tanked before A-1 bought it, but the city folk from the Big Apple performed the coup de grace.

Pretty funny story here...

My girlfriend went to the Miranda Lambert concert in Lindale over the weekend. (Keep in mind KYKX was the presenting station) KMOO was there handing out t-shirts that say "KMOO loves Miranda" and "KMOO was the first East Texas radio station to play Miranda." She didn't see any KYKX banners or even a van outside. She said the audience was just a sea of KMOO shirts! HAHA

Then she said Dru from KYKX and someone from KMOO got on stage together to bring out Miranda. They started off by trashing KNUE and The Bull saying they "refused to promote the concert and obviously they don't support local music"

Didn't take long for the KYKXers to pull another in their series of no class acts. KMOO should know better than to allow itself to be ensnared in cheap shot tactics from KYKX. Just proves that miserable people not only love company, they demand it.

Obviously Dru realized he'd allowed KYKX to run second place to KMOO in the event and station promotion, so Dru drags someone from KMOO on stage and sets it up to look like KYKX is really in control. Geez, such schlock.

Wake up, KMOO and anyone else so unaware as to allow KYKXs dirty tactics to include you. KYKX wants you right down there in the mud along with small country 105-point 7.

Evidentally, not playing this local artist, is not hurting KNUE. I don't blame KMOO. They are just a small community station, who really doesn't know any better. I give Jason Hightower credit, he's done fairly well with it in NE Texas. But, I doubt the people at KMOO knew how unprofessional that KYKX was going to be. They were there I'm sure just to get a little publicity.

KYKX is reaching and is desperate. When was the last time they were even close to KNUE in the ratings?!

When I was at KLTV, KETK would try the same kind of tactics. They just never could catch us, and it would frustrate them so badly that they would try anything. That is where KYKX is right now.
