Yet another reason why COMCAST Sucks

TBS carried the METS/BRAVES game nationally. Of course it was blacked out because locally the game was on WCCT-TV Channel 20 (which still IDs as WTXX) in Hartford. However the game has been over since 4PM and TBS is still blacked out. WPIX in NYC (which provides the game for WCCT) wrapped up coverage at 4:05PM. And the post game show is on SNY on cable.

Ahh, the good (more like bad) ol' days of Comcrap. Comcast used to be down here in So. Cal until Time Warner Cable bought them out. Comcast was terrible - it didn't have as many channels, many channel would be out, and when it rains out, nothing would air on the channels, not even on locals. TWC is at least better than Comcast, though they're service is expensive (if you're like me I got all the premium packages) and sometimes, they threaten to remove channels due to contracts.

When was Comcast in Southern California? From the way you describe it, it sound like a long time ago. In the Bay Area, cable was as you describe it in the 70s under Viacom Cable, and improved a bit with each new owner - TCI, then AT&T.

I can't remember how many years it's been since Comcast bought out AT&T - probably about a decade. But Comcast's service here has always been excellent - no problem with reception, even in bad weather, 100s of channels to choose from - no problem.

I don't particularly give Comcast credit for that - I think it's likely because the technology has improved over the years, and at least here - most of their fiber-optic cable are underground, now.

Oh - and yes, the service is expensive.

Comcast systems in SoCal were bought by Time Warner Cable sometime in 2006. Around the same time, TWC bought all Adelphia systems nationwide, since Adelphia went bankrupt. Hope this helps.

Marc, do you know if TBS was still airing the local cable inserts during the blackout shift? Cablevision's done that on TBS during a game that was blacked out locally.

That I don't know. Yesterday was the first blacked out game that was actually blacked out. Usually when the game on TBS is blacked out we're treated to an additional channel carrying HLN. So we would have HLN on both 16 and 61.

Time Warner did not buy all Alelphia systems -- some of those went to Comcast. And also as part of that deal, some Time warner systems were acquired by Comcast.

I think we may need to subtitle this one "The World's Longest Thread"! :D

Oh, yeah. Forgot about the part where some of the former Adelphia systems became Comcast systems as did some of the former TWC systems. My apologies for that mistake/omission. :-[

Comcast Central CA just dropped all analog channels and made them digital except the locals and WGN in order to add 50 more HD channels, everybody that had cable hooked directly to their tv were given a mini cable box in the mail for free and is free for 2 outlet on per month, these mini boxes have no program guide and can't be used for Premium services or pay-per-view.These boxes do give you the original basic digital channels 100 and above and most locals sub channels like RTV and THIS-TV.

that was the coolest thing about njs comcast that you can get cable channels without a box
not anymore now you have to rent a box for everyroom

Wait a second... Comcast giving their subscribers something for free? Surely, you jest?

Here in ATL, Comcast oops I mean Xfinity gives you 2 free basic adapters and 1 free didgital box. Otherwise, I think it's $5.99/month per box and now $5/month per modem.

It must be a joke. I was one of those in Atlanta who had a cable hooked up right to the back of the TV. Every few months, Comcrap would drop another channel for us cable-only folks to try to force the box on us. We finally got fed up and went to DirecTV because of the great introductory deal. Come January, we'll be going to Dish just so we don't have to subsidize all the expensive sports programming that we don't really care about.

Congratulations Comcrap! You did a great job alienating a customer.

I was considering adding MLB Extra Innings to my service. It's $35 a month to see out of area baseball games. In most places, the coverage is available in HD. Not if your service if Comcast. Not sure exactly why that is. I pay for Comcast HD, and most of the games are available that way. But when I switch to Extra Innings, it shifts back to 480. They tell me that's how it is.

I also don't get why they have Shaq and Ben Stein advertising for their services. A washed up athlete and a washed up actor.

Ben Stein is actually a washed up economist and political pundit who happens to act occasionally. Basically, he has one act - the deadpan look and monotone delivery. We can thank whoever cast Ferris Bueller, when he played the excruciatingly boring high school teacher.

"Anyone? Anyone?"
