http://bostonradiowatch.com/David Field himself announced the deal today. Is this the same Entercom who, four years ago laughed at Fisher for offering $10 mil/yr for the Mariners rights?Does this mean Entercom will make a silimiar ridiculous offer in '08 to get the M's back from KOMO?

ENTERCOM POPS $20 MIL/YR FOR THE RED SOX!

...ya never know...

Let's take a look here guys and gals.1) Boston is a MUCH bigger market than Seattle. More folks = more revenue.2) Boston is a baseball town the likes of which we can't begin to comprehend. The Entercom sports station WEEI is always top 5 - and with 4-6 shares! It's generational - they've been playing baseball there since dirt.3) It fits their format much better than KOMO - so let's not draw that parallel. As for KTTH picking up the Mariners - that would make self flagilation look sensible. 4) All this having been said - the Beantown Entercom sales crew will have to work VERY hard to break even with the Sox. Sports ain't the cash cow it once was.Go M's.

Not quite. An option is not the same as a piece of the station. It is the opportunity to buy a portion of the station at some sort of price set out in the deal. With the way radio - and AM radio in particular - has been going, one has to wonder what the incentive would be. Sort of like buying a chance to manage Brittney Spears on her 60th birthday. It also speaks to how much PLUS the kitchen sink Entercom threw into solidify the deal.

Sox to get option

>>>>An option is not the same as a piece...ANY portion they can lay their hands on would be considered a good-sized 'chunk'.>>>>what's the incentive here?.....probably to take over the station in due time.>>>> It speaks to how much PLUS the kitchen sink Entercom threw into solidify the deal....Field's a wheeler-dealer - betcha he'll splurge for the M's back to KIRO also...

Precisely my point. In '02 David and the Seattle management thought Bill Krippaehane was a looney tune for offering so much for the M's rights. So in '08 - don't be surprised to see Entercom get them back. And NOT for KTTH.

In my diary ... those are classified as two completely separate issues. Bill did MANY things prior to the Mariners that already gave him the crown...
