YNN Fires Long-Time Sports Director Bill Pucko

According to an article in the Rochester newspaper, Sports Director Bill Pucko was fired from his job at YNN.
Pucko had been with the cable TV news outlet, then known as R-News, since it was founded back in 1990. The reason for Pucko's firing was not released. Prior to being hired at YNN, Pucko previously worked at WHEC TV-10 as a sports reporter and weekend sports anchor.
 
I read that article yesterday. I am sorry he's no longer on there. That goes to show you no matter how long you've been employed anywhere, no job is safe. I think Pucko should rejoin Channel 10 as their main sports guy, and get Robin Dewind out of there. She has no business doing sports anyway.

It is very unlikely that Channel 10 would re-hire Bill Pucko. The trend today instead is to hire people right out of college, or with a few years in a small market, willing to accept a lower salary and benefits. Pucko certainly isn't going to work for minimum wage. As for his newspaper column in the Messenger Post, I wouldn't count on that for a livelihood. Gateway Media, owners of the Post newspapers, isn't the most stable operation. That organization has trimmed its staff numerous times while its stock has floundered. The Post newspapers were better off when the Ewing family ran those newspapers.

As for Robin Dewind, you have the right to your own opinion, but I fail to see why such criticism is being focused on her.
There are numerous female sports anchors and announcers across the country. And even if DeWind's background isn't sports, that doesn't mean she can't read from a teleprompter or has a staff that writes her stories for her. Besides, personally speaking, I don't think sports is that vital in a local newscast anyways. With the exception of say the LPGA or local high school and college scores, any sports enthusiast would turn to ESPN for in-depth sports coverage.
