YNN.....THEY'RE OFF!

Just noticed this morning that AM 900 and 106.1 are silent!!! No YNN audio. What happened? But more important if they've been shuttered...what happens next?

Was listening to 106.1 last night around 7:15 the stock market report at went silent tuned over to 900 and silent. I'm at work today and no access to a radio so don't know if it's back on or not?

I don't know the rules, but I think it could be okay because elsewhere some day-time only AMers are using FM translators for 24 hour operations.

There are exceptions for daytimer stations to operate 24 hours, BUT if the main station is off the air, the translator has to sign off too. Same rule as when a full power FM is off the air. They are in fact in violation.

Daytimers can have full time translators. It's what started the whole translator for AM deal.
I saw something that mandates that the translator be fed from the AM. It had to be wrong because, that would sound incredibly bad.

By off the air, them mean during nighttime post/pre sunrise hours, NOT when the main station is off-air due to incapability to broadcast.

I have an HD radio in my new car, and WQSH-HD2 is off the air frequently but W256BU never signs off when the main station is off the air, as per FCC rules:

Loss of primary station's signal. The translator must be set up to go off the air if the main station's signal is lost. See 47 CFR Sections 74.1234(a)(2) and 74.1263(b).

Town Square is breaking the commission's rules with this translator and doing so frequently. Furthermore, this makes it obvious that they are NOT feeding the translator with the HD2 audio but instead are feeding it directly. BUT the translator should be set up to sign off when the main signal is lost.

The FCC seems to never fine for either of these infractions though, so unless someone calls the FCC, it will go unnoticed.

Same with Red Wolf Broadcasting in Hartford. Someone I know has an HD radio and has noticed that WMRQ 104.1 HD2 has been off the air, yet the translators BOMBA - 97.1 in Bolton and 99.5 in Meriden remain on the air.

W256BU and WQSH-HD2 are both owned by Townsquare, which after looking at their site I realize is on word.
