Yorke schools Barber AGAIN!

Hear Dan Yorke's pointed comments about the Pawtucket police shooting and how people who comes to "these airwaves" should be responsible and present fact based discussion rather than inflammatory crapola.
It was clear who he was talking about.
My own opinion is Dan Yorke views Dave Barber as a less talented version of John DePetro.

> Radio head05,
I think you`re on to something. Yorke also mentioned'whoring'
another referance to Barbers barbaric treatment of the Pawtucket
Police actions.
I think it`s a matter of time before Yorke puts his foot down.
Barber is making a laughing stock of what was once a great
talk station.
Fallriveractive.

WHY does Dan put up with this???

>> I think it`s a matter of time before Yorke puts his foot down.

I think you're right!
He should wield his clout, and give management an ultimatum.

Re: WHY does Dan put up with this???

No ultimatum needed.
The vast difference in the quality of product offered up by these two talk hosts speaks for itself.
Yorke knows it and that gives him all the leverage he needs not only with WPRO management but with the audience.
Never met Yorke but in listening to him I think he respects people who bring hard work and character to the radio talk host profession.
Pretty apparent Dave Barber falls way short on both counts.

RE "No ultimatum needed."

I disagree.
Enough is enough.

It's a mistake for Dan NOT to put-his-foot-down.
Threaten to WALK.
How much more of Barber's antics should York tolerate???

<< The vast difference in the quality of product offered up by these two talk hosts speaks for itself. >>

Thus the several ratings predictions among those I am tracking.
Several handicappers say that Barber will tank and Dan's numbers soar.

But isn't it just a matter of time until one of the New York stations scoops up Dan's show? Or maybe one of the networks will syndicate him?

Barber??? SCHOOL???

You've GOT to be kidding.

The only school Barber has been to is The Michigan School of Watch Repair.

Or, as it says on the sweatshirt, "Tick-Tock Tech."

Re: Barber??? SCHOOL???

No Dave...errr Ears I'm not kidding at all.
You've been schooled by your younger colleague TWICE in your brief stay here.
Not good!

If you could only take ONE guess...

Are you saying that -- if you could only take ONE guess -- you're guessing that IamAllEars is Dave Barber himself?

ONE guess.

And before you make that "your final answer," wanna make it interesting?

HOW sure are you?

Dans callers IQs above 80

"School" is a good analogy.

After all, Arbitron is radio's "report card."

PS: Tongue-in-cheek grammar tip regaring "school," from columnist William Safire: "Don't verb nouns."

WHO will wear the dunce cap?

And who goes-to-the-head-of-the-class?

We'll know at 1PM ET July 20.

Predictions welcome.

It's out of our hands now.
Arbitron diarykeepers are keeping diaries RIGHT NOW.

Im all Queers ,or Ears, 'Dave The Barber'
Hollans Cooked, Holland Tunnel, Holland half Baked ,,,GEE!
I Don`t KNOW??????Holland Has-Been??????

RE: Here`s my guess!!!!

<< Holland Tunnel,,,Holland Has-Been??? >>

I would have guessed another consultant, one now based in Michigan; based on the Arbitron information AND the knowledge of vintage Providence radio that I've read in various IamAllEars posts.

TRUE STORY, from when I still-was.
I'm NOT making this up.

My last full-time on-air gig was afternoons at legendary WKBW/Buffalo, 1981 (then WPRO's sister station).

My first day on-air there, they had me do a walk-on on the morning show, hosted by legendary local DJ Dan Neaverth, a real card.

Dan quipped, "Any relation to Holland Tunnel?"

I replied, "Yes! Admittedly, he's a distant relative, but 'Holland' is a family surname; and the distant cousin was John Philip Holland, inventor of the submarine, after whom the Holland Tunnel was named."

Then came at least :03 of dead air.

TRUE STORY.

That "has been" my favorite Holland Tunnel story ever since.

Holland, would you GET LOST!

You mean IamAllEars is the guy who originally brought PRO-FM to the top of the heap? Naaah! The last thing in the world that would have brought him to this board is a talk radio battle.

You're absolutely right.

>> You mean IamAllEars is the guy who originally brought PRO-FM to the top of the heap? Naaah! The last thing in the world that would have brought him to this board is a talk radio battle.

You're absolutely right. Although I notice that the discussions here aren't solely about Talk radio...even though Talk radio tends to dominate.

"Another 30 minute commercial-free music sweep" doesn't seem to provoke much shop talk.

What's amazing is that -- with all the dough that Gary and I are putting in Northwest Airlines' pocket -- we have yet to run into each other at Detroit airport!

But there IS another Michigan-based consultant, who worked in New England years ago.

WHOEVER IamAllEars is, he/she understands Arbitron, remembers local radio from That 70s Era, and seems to know Michigan radio too. Oh, and has ears.
