You Can't Beat A Thick Playlist!

Playing songs you just can't hear or at least not very often in country music has worked very well for us. Keeping a large playlist and mixing current country, top 60 country, and traditional country music has kept a large listener base for our station here at WLRE for 12 years. If we say we are where country lives that's no joke, it might be a mixture of all three types but it works and it works well.

I do see the wow factor. I had that when working at WCOS FM,our music director (Glen G) rotated some songs in/out on the playlist. There was a lot of songs that were good but never got the airplay they deserve. Keeping a thick playlist is good if you maintain it.

Yep,...this has become a two-sided discussion, and that is quite healthy. The post before this one, from snailboy, has a very valid point. He is OK with a Thick Playlist, as long as it is properly maintained. That point is pure truth because we all have heard large playlists that have not been maintained, even to the point of obvious neglect. Giving songs a shelved rest has always been one of my Programming practices. At the last AOR, that I Programmed, I even went a step further, and shelved some songs as "Seasonal". "Forever Autumn" by Justin Heyward only ran October thru February. It may sound a bit silly, but I felt that it was just important to hold, as it was to control the rotation. Some songs like "Red, Red Wine", are just "Deadwood", and should have been deleted years ago. That song has zero benefit for MAGIC 98.9 Judging from how much they play it, just smacks a pencilneck Consultant, with the printed results of an Auditorium Music Test, to justify his paycheck. One of the biggest Lies in the Business. Trust me, the song is dead, and this is why their ratings are so small. It's just the Truth!

I agree with seasonal songs for example we held The Boys Of Fall, Ready For Some Football, and Friday In The South till now for Football season.
