You know it's a slow news day when...

...The Iron Chef is teaching Anderson Cooper how to chop an onion on AC 360. (Apparently Anderson did a bad job of it while filling in for Regis this morning.)

And Dr. Phil was Larry King's guest tonight, yet again.

Wow. I mean, wow.

No one's talking about Ed McMahon's condition? Such a way to treat an entertainment icon who is in poor health.

Publisher's Clearing House should have given ED a BIG CHECK to remove the stress he is suffering from!

HLN had Ed in the loop this morning and spent more than the normal 15 seconds on his story.

....when Michelle Obama's arms are one of the lead stories on Good Morning America. They got a lot more time than Paul Harvey's passing; a good four minutes of Kate Snow foaming over MO's "fabulously toned" bare arms. During the 7 - 7:30 segment, no less. Masquerading as hard news. In general, it was a fawning, nauseating and unnecessary waste of valuable airtime.

Has anyone heard any updates on Ed's condition?
I haven't, but the prognosis doesn't appear very good.

If you've noticed past events such as this the lull before the storm generally means the individual doesn't have much time left and the family/business/media is getting their act together for the final announcement and sendoff.

I noticed that With Paul Harvey's death that ABC radio had a special that was well prepared enough that it had to have been done in advance to be ready for when it happened. I guess it's the same way with prepared reports or tributes for other famous people who are rumoured to be near death or are in the later years of their lives.

I know a few years back some prepared obituary websites were accidentally put online at CNN's website, including several presidents and celebrities who had not died at that time, including Presidents Reagan and Ford, and Bob Hope. It's kind of creepy when you thing about it.

Actually, it's been a longstanding practice on
each network to have a biography of a noted
person ready to go when the person dies, especially
if the person is of advanced age (as Reagan, Ford,
and Hope were). In fact, JFK was so young (46)
and his assassination so unexpected that Harry Reasoner
was called in from a "CBS Reports" documentary he was
filming to put together a biography of the late President
that aired on Friday night, November 22, 1963, just hours
after Kennedy was killed.

It's hard to believe, though, that with a major winter
storm that hit the South yesterday and the Northeast
today, the networks would be hard up for a news
story this morning.

Weren't McMahon and Dick Clark with that OTHER megamegamega bucks sweepstakes, called American Family something?

...when the news does a story on that damn idiotic water sking squirrel. I'd like to see a barracuda or something come barreling out of the depths and eat the little rodent, skis and all.
