You might get beat up this morning because it's morning, and the breakfast beatdown, on 101.5 JamZ will HIT YOU HARD!
His mixes are in FULL EFFECT and will hit you like a PUNCH TO THE FACE!
When I first heard that MikeeMike was leaving as the morning dj, I had to go to Wal-Mart and get some tissue to wipe my tears away, but the moment I heard Chris Villa jump in that studio and throw it down in the mix, I immediately pulled out that receipt, hopped into the light rail, and returned the paper towels, all hyped up, because
THAT MIX WAS OFF THE HOOK!
Anyway, seriously speaking, I have to admit when I first heard Mikee Mike was being replaced but don't worry because it will still be just as good, I was like "hmmmmmm I don't know..." because Mikee Mike is pretty hard to top, but damn it, Chris Villa stepped into the studio and just threw it down like..... like... well, I don't know what! He threw it down ALMOST PRECISELY like he did that evening on his first day mixing at the station, which I still remember clearly! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! And judging by what I heard again this morning, I think I have to recommend that when you wake up, the FIRST thing you should do every morning is get your radio and go to the nearest hospital and wait to get knocked out when Chris Villa hits you hard with the Breakfast Beatdown.
For anyone else who is also into the music and Dj'ing as well as radio, this will be a big deal to you, and I recommend you listen to what certain stations are doing in the mornings here in Az. I've got to say that I love KZON, BUT....
(and here comes that big, ironic but...!!!!!)

As much as I love KZON in addition to their ENTIRE staff personalities, I do have to confess one thing..
I HAVEN'T BEEN AS FAITHFUL LATELY!!!
Yes, I do have to admit that these past few days.... ok weeks now, I've been "cheating on KZON" with KKFR, and I'm loving how KKFR, Power 98.3 has been sounding recently! Although there are still some improvements I'd like to see there (as well as other stations), I do have to admit I'm loving the musical selection, and the way the music and mixes are being programmed there, and if you are a comedian, you will be COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED when I tell you about Dj Skandalis because
HIS MIXES ARE NOT A JOKE!
There is definitely something to look forward to at 6:30 in the morning (and who else is going to hit you with the nufirm remix of "down" by Jay Sean amongst a few other things?). I will surely miss the Power Mix Weekends because they were usually always interesting and fun to listen to, and not to mention Dj Tyger being a VERY HUGE PART of the reason why I've been stuck on KKFR lately, especially on the weekends!
I do have to show some love to KKFR, and I truly do wish them the best because even with KZON already handling their business correctly, I would be deeply disappointed if anything did happen to Power.
As of right now, as much as I'm tempted to sway towards KZON, it is pretty difficult for me to choose which station is my all time favorite, and which one I'd choose if I were stranded on a deserted island and could only pick one. As silly as it may sound, I love the KZON music format, however, I love the KKFR musical selection and programming.
I guess I should also give credit to KPWR Power 106 in L.A. for getting me (back) into Power 98.3 because it was after visiting L.A. and loving 106 that got me into Power. I was really into KAMP 97.1, but Power 106 put in a hell of a lot more work into making their station sound and remain fun and interesting, and Power 98.3 does have many similarities to Power 106... I also love BIG BOY's Neighborhood, probably the best rhythmic / urban sound morning show in L.A, which leads me into my next topic

I forever miss Energy, but I do have to say that classic hip hop was a BRILLIANT idea to adopt, especially at this day in time... but I will not get into a full detailed explanation on why. The station is being ran very well, and they do have some decent specialty shows to offer, along with the best times of hip hop music for those of you who are die hard hip hop fans. (Me? I like hip hop, but I'm more of a rhythmic freak). There's more I could say, but for now, I'll just say that they were very very VERY smart for taking on the Big Boy morning show, although I truly wish Power 98.3 thought of it first! Yes, that would take away from Skandalis in the morning, but I wouldn't mind hearing him do his thing during certain other times of the day.... Lady La and Joey would still sound good at a different time slot during the day. Big Boy's Neighborhood is definitely something to listen to, and probably is one of the best morning shows to hit Phoenix.
With all this going on in the morning here in Phoenix, I can't even find the time to enjoy that extra hour of The Nearly Famous Barry Young KFYI FINALLY decided to hit everyone with (that I've been dying and wishing for since day one)! That should've been done a long long time ago! When it comes strictly to rhythmic or rhythmic lean radio, I think this is the happiest I've ever been in Phoenix for a long time! Hitting you with all the hits in 2009! KMVA, although it could be very much livened up and improved, isn't really all that bad themselves...
