You think these two LEGAL SA LPFMs will get on in time?

After 96.7 and 96.5 lied to the FCC recently saying they were on the air when they aren't really on, we have two seemingly legit LPFMs filing modifications trying to get on in town before their deadline a month away.
https://fccdata.org/?facid=197088
https://fccdata.org/?facid=197562

Hopefully someone decent in town with the know-how to help these two out is reading these forums that's all I can say. A month is not that long.

ESPERANZA PEACE AND JUSTICE CENTER and MARTINEZ STREET WOMEN'S CENTER both submitted applications to move slightly. Their engineering people look like they're from a different state though from the application, which makes me wonder how they'll get on unless they have someone local helping out too.

It is very common for an engineering firm that specializes in filings with the FCC to be utilized. For example, you use an engineering company to find and file for you. If you get the Construction Permit, you arrange with a local engineer to construct the facility according to the Construction Permit. A slight move is common. It is easier to get a Construction Permit on an existing tower registered with the FFA. The company owning the tower can provide an email of site assurance. Then, you do a minor move to the spot you actually want.

What a lot of people don't consider is just how difficult it is to erect a tower. The property owner might be fine with it, but it might take city and/or county approval. A person not wanting to see a tower might complain or the city or county tries to make every sort of survey, study and such to grant approval. Having been through that, I can tell you everyone is scared to act in fear of doing the wrong thing. Since their job depends on it and tower requests are big unknowns, their lack of knowledge makes the job a tough one where if you don't pull your hair out, it will likely fall out thanks to the stress and frustration. And if you ever want to stir the pot, ask for a tower height above established site rules on the books and say 'what's the deal...the federal government has approved this.'

Both LPFMs are now approved for 50 watts at 2.5 meters.

Hopefully they can get on before their deadline in April.

Both stations have call letters now.

ESPERANZA PEACE AND JUSTICE CENTER -- KEPJ-LP 101.5
MARTINEZ STREET WOMEN'S CENTER - KMSW-LP 101.5

Acronyms for the centers' names.

They have only a few days left now...

Hopefully they make it.

That's a one month extension until May 16, as they wait for their transmitter.

Hopefully 'em blokes in the UK can ship it out soonishly, mate.

Quote:
"As outlined above, the LPFM Certified transmitter originally specified was no longer being manufactured, with delays estimated for arrival of new units from the UK, hence the request for extension.
As of April 12, the antenna is installed, cables are enroute to arrive and be installed by Saturday and all will be ready for the transmitter as soon as it arrives."

The FCC extended their cp by tolling from 5 days to 30. Hopefully their gear gets here and on the air. I know of a couple of people that have reached out to help

Two days left for KEPJ and KMSW, hopefully another LPFM has a backup transmitter if they're expecting to save their licenses and their transmitter doesn't make it here on time. If they don't come on the air I guess 101.5 is my new frequency for my part 15, until Message Radio makes it on LOL.

That's sad, it's now the 17th and no stations on 101.5 and no licenses to cover saying they're on the air. I guess their transmitters didn't make it on time from the UK?

So what will happen now was their money wasted on the LPFM stations, or will they be able to make it a few days late? Perhaps another station can buy their equipment if they're not planning on getting on. It seems crazy to just watch this go under when they were trying so dang hard.

If they can prove abnormal shipping times over and above the average, they can ask the FCC to reconsider. The FCC can break their own rules when justified.

One station was allowed the 3 years needed to find a suitable tower site when their city passed a height restriction on all structures and refused to grandfather their tower. Certainly the broadcaster kept in touch with the FCC on progress but the FCC rightfully saw the broadcaster was put in a bad spot not of their own doing. The fact the community was being overrun with subdivisions and high end housing meant a long and fruitless search for a new tower site that went on about 3 years before it was resolved. The rule is if you are silent for over one year, you lose your license. In this case the FCC worked with the broadcaster instead of applying the rule.

They both filed licenses to cover today.

Currently on 101.5 I can hear nothing but static. But that doesn't mean they're not on, as I'm kind of far away from their broadcast location. KIEI-LP (Message Radio) will blast into my location however if it makes it on.

I just was notified by someone today that KEPJ and KMSW are on the air. I haven't been near downtown though and don't have any info as to what they're actually playing. Can anyone let us know?

I didn't see mention of the stations on the organizations' Facebook pages or anything so far, I'd be blasting that info out if I had a new radio station on.
