Young Frankenstein?

I just moved here from another Top 20 market. Holy crow, does ATL TV news suck!

What's with Blair Meeks? A fair-to-average reporter, this guy has a face for newspapers, much less radio. Aren't there any standards in the Big Peach?

Yes, there is only one station people watch for news - WSB-TV.

I moved from NY to ATL 7 years ago. I do find that ATL news is not with New York. There is not one station in NY like WSB that is totally full of themselves, thinks they are better than any station in the country, and reports on nothing but doom and gloom. I can't stand their pompus newscasters and reporters. I find that the reporting on WXIA & WAGA is much better. There is the hard news, but they do report on lighter stories. I think 11 does a better job overall.

The one thing I truly find lacking here is sports reports in the newscast. Randy Waters on WXIA is the best out of all of them. Rodriguez on 5 is too full of himself, the others on 11 are somewhat bland, and Ch. 2's sports guys are too "good ole boy" like, especially when you look at their anchors who seem too polished. The only exception was when Mark Arum filled a while ago.

Notice I don't mention WGCL... they are just all around awful.

Until someone from a REAL major market comes to Atlanta to run a news department, it is not going to improve.

Delta and AirTran have many flights a day BACK to NY.....Good Luck!
ooooo, great comment, and one that really addesses the issue: let's detract from the commentators instead of raising the quality of the product. I came from a smaller market and TV news here is worse than where I left. Want to attack me? I'm sure I can find an Amtrack schedule somewhere.

I lived in the Little Rock market for a short time, but I am from Atlanta and live there now. Little Rock TV news reports straight news. Try this example. In Little Rock they would report that someone sneezed today, and that would be it. On WSB TV in Atlanta, not only would they report someone sneezed today, they would find witnesses to the sneeze. They would hound the person who sneezed to make sure it was not an illegal action. They would interview experts on sneezing. They would also ask an african american leader his opinion on sneezing if it impacted the african american community. They would get the government's reaction. Then they would try to find if it has any lingering affects for the future.

Why can't they simply report the news and let us draw our own conclusions? I get sick and tired of them always running to african american leaders for their opinion. They should ask jewish leaders, hispanic, white, and all other races for opinions or simply drop it.

How about the stations who do live shots just for the sake of live shots? Especially on the late news. "I'm standing here at the corner of Main and Elm where earlier today two people were killed in a tragic accident. They've cleared it all off now and there's nothing to see, but even if there were, it's dark now and you couldn't see it. I'm just here because we have this expensive live truck and we have to use it. Back to you in the studio..." And then they have the audacity to report it as "Breaking News."
