Younger Talkers

some stations are puttting younger talk hosts on the air.
But----- most young listeners don't care about AM radio or news---talk.
And--- older listeners are dying off.
it must be a desperate attempt to keep news---talk alive.

Don't Worry some people get their talk shows from NPR.

Yeah, talkradio's best chance to save the format where younger demos are concerned was over 10 years ago. Different stations/markets tried putting younger, hipper hosts on, but none of those stations really had the fortitude to stick it out and put up with the core older audience getting angry, so they relented and basically signed their own death warrant.

There was a time when managers cared about 10-years-from-now, but currently the mindset is similar to that of Wall Street---which is: Don't talk to me about next decade, talk to me about next quarter.

Talkradio will eventually die with it's core. Younger people don't care about talkradio anymore because there's nothing there for them.

Maybe the younger talkers appeal to a younger audience who are experiencing in their real worlds something much different than what they are being told everyone else is experiencing; and they simply are not buying that it must just be they who are experiencing that very different something.

Hmmm. There must be a message in there somewhere. ;)

I believe the pendulum swings both ways.

Don't forget, a couple of decades ago Rush Limbaugh grabbed the attention of young people who had no previous interest in news or politics. It could happen again. Young people aren't stupid and as talk radio devolves there will be a void to be filled.

But it won't be the result of "young sounding" hosts like Andy Dean and Steve Deace who bring nothing new to the table yet lack the depth of experience of the older guys. Also it's not likely to happen on AM radio this time.

He made a similarly arcane post in another thread. I guessed he maybe had a tooth pulled today. LOL

For some idiotic reason, the radio management intelligencia decided that having younger hosts saying the same things the older hosts say, would make younger people listen. It didn't make sense then, and it doesn't make sense now. It's about relatability and style of delivery. How a younger person would relate to Deace or Dean is beyond me.

Talkradio management just can't seem to fathom getting off the hyper-partisan-political-ideological teat.

Talk radio with younger hosts who do more llifestyle & less politics may be on FM
in years to come. but it remains to be seen if younger & middle age humans have
the patience to listen to it. Probably not.

What about some NPR affiliates such as WAMU-FM and KQED-FM they proven that not everybody in the talk radio audience is insane or a lobbyist. I know KQED-FM has Forum and WAMU has Diane Rehm and Kojo Namdi they showed that in these markets that a talk radio host can be objective, center, independent and moderate.

I accept the fact--- NPR stations have their own audience & get good ratings in some cities., My comments
referred to other Talk radio.

HE, huh. Reading a message by that poster a long time ago, I made a similar gender response. That flub-up helped teach me to reach people posts a bit more carefully before putting my BIG foot in my not-quite-as-big mouth.

After that I spent more time when a post puzzled me tracking down other posts by that person in hopes of recognizing how the person communicates, and maybe getting the whole message.

"Silkie" ain't a HE.

I haven't fully learned to "decode" Silkie, but my best guess on how to read the post you call arcane: Maybe something was posted that makes no sense.... but that was camouflaged. So a response was posted mocking the "makes no sense"....

Silkie has yanked my leash a time or two. Life runs smoother when you make sure you are running on all eight cylinders when you compose a post.

Such perceptions generally work in favor of vindicating those against whom they are directed, so I thank you.
