"Fabulous 1570 WHTX... and now, also on AM 1540!

Beginning today, the Fabulous 1570 WHTX will be simulcast on our sister station, AM 1540 WYCL, from sun up to sun down. You now can hear Warren and Youngstown's Original Hits anywhere in the Mahoning Valley!

Fans of Louie B. Free can still listen to "Brain Food From The Heartland" every weekday from 9 am until noon, only on AM 1540 WYCL! "

Yeah, in another thread here, you can see the owner of WHTX/WYCL talking about taking over 1540 from his LMA operator due to alleged bounced checks. :D

Mr. Free's bank account is apparently in better shape, so the King of Youngstown Brokered Talk Radio continues on, pre-empting the simulcast of 1570 on 1540 for three hours a day.

Beginning Monday, Gary Rhamy will be heard on both WHTX 1570 AM/WYCL 1540 from 7 to 10 AM, then while the music takes over on WHTX at 10 AM, Louie Free will be on from 10 AM to 2 PM on WYCL, then simulcast music on both after 2 PM.

I am hearing another msic morning show will be debuting December 1 on a small powered AM in Ytown...This program will replace a syndicated talk program.

WGFT, maybe?

Or WASN?

WGFT would make some sense, as Cumulus' Don Imus currently holds forth in morning drive. I lost track of what WASN is airing in mornings; their previous locally-based morning show moved to WSOM/600 back in June.

WASN had some local show with a woman named Tracey, I think, presumably geared for the African-American audience. That's probably the show you're thinking about. I have no idea if they're doing syndie in AM drive, or maybe he meant late morning.

IIRC, they run Warren Ballentine live in his 10 AM-1 PM time slot, or at least they used to.

The ladies name is Tracey Winbush and her show afternoon's with Tracey and friends air on WSOM-AM 600 noon-3PM.
WASN actually air's a local show from 10AM-noon called the botttom live with Clarance Boles (editor of the buckeye review/former Youngstown school board member). The show started out on Saturdays a couple of years ago and has grown since.

I have inside infomation about the new live AM music Drive show and a format change on a Youngstown "heritage" AM station. I cannot say anything else. Sorry.

WASN replace Tracey with the Tom Joyner Show and cut down the Warren Ballentine to make room for the live midday show.

Yes Tracey was on WASN and she felt it was time to move to another station back earlier this year. Tracey was the former sales manager when it was owned by stop 26 riverbend (Percy Squire). After Bernard broadcast took over the stations she started the broker talk show.

She is very active in the local republican party and last year she was running for a Mahoning county offer but lost.

After Tracey left WASN she was replace by Clarence who was doing a Saturday show and since going to weekdays he has increased ratings.

The only AM station that comes to mind is the aforementioned WGFT, physical decendent of the old WHOT/1330.

IMO, it's inevitable that Cumulus will poach Imus, Hannity and Levin to run on either WSOM/600 or WPIC/790. Of course, Cumulus now owns the rights to all three shows via Cumulus Media Networks, the former Citadel Media (and before that, ABC Radio) and both WSOM and WPIC are now ABC News Radio affiliates.

If all three shows got yanked, WGFT would have little left. Even being a daytimer after previous ownership forfeited their night signal almost a decade ago...

Good point, Nathan. I'd entirely forgotten the Cumulus connection re: WSOM and WPIC. I can easily see them moving Cumulus owned or represented programming over to their talkers.

ABC News Radio, of course, is still owned by Disney's ABC News, but Cumulus took over the 10 year Citadel sales/operations contract for it.

Didn't Hannity change his syndicator to Premiere/Clear Channel?

It's actually distributed by both. Cumulus handles distribution/sales for Hannity on the "legacy" ABC Radio O&Os (WABC, WMAL, WJR, KABC, WBAP, KSFO, etc.), while Premiere handles those duties for all other affiliates.

But remember that neither WKBN or WNIO air Hannity, so WPIC or WSOM could poach Hannity if they wanted to.

WPIC never did for some reason, even when WGFT wasn't carrying him. IIRC, they have a long-running local PM drive show, but they coulda grabbed Hannity, if they wanted him, and put him in delay or something.

Premiere will sell to anyone who is filling an uncovered market, even if CC owns talk stations there and doesn't take the shows. Remember Glenn Beck on 107.1/Greenville, before the EMF purchase? ;)
