Your 2018 general TV predictions (or guesses)

But ESPN haven't been renewing, or cancelling contracts with several sports pundits/analysts. If they're cutting back on on-air talent, why would you think ESPN would be interested in bringing ones over from FOX?

https://www.ocregister.com/2017/12/14/how-the-disney-fox-deal-affects-local-sports-coverage/

I am referring to Fox Sports regionals that are being taken over by Disney like Fox Sports West in Los Angeles some of these pundits on the Fox Sports regional end will be cut or transitioned to ESPN West once Disney takes over in Los Angeles.

Update there's rumors that Peter Thiel will make a network that will rival Fox News? Umm what's the minimum audience size to make this network exist? You had Sinclair, and other Pro-Trump talk shows on Youtube also but what's the minimum audience size needed to make it viable?

Depends on what you mean by "viable." Getting on cable systems these days isn't easy. Al Gore found that out a few years back. You can have a channel and put out content, but that doesn't mean anyone will pick it up and get people to watch. The YouTube model is fine for what it is, just as the digi-nets are fine for what they do. If someone is saying they want to be a rival to Fox News, that requires a channel that has agreements with 85% or more of the cable systems in the country. That's not easy to get, and if you change the name or focus of a channel, that opens it up for the cable company to drop it.

No, Comcast will not buy Fox Sports 1 and 2. They will buy out the regional Fox Sports Networks and make them into a national service that offers regional sports each night and weekend.
Why would Disney sell them to Comcast? They need it to bolster ESPN.

Meaning the Fox Sports Talk Shows are part of ESPN know same with Whiparound and so on.

NHL return to ESPN and World Series ends up on ESPN because Fox doesn't want to have to premier shows in November or premier ones in September then in October had put them on hiatus because of World Series. More Sub Channels show up on S. Dish or so on.

I can't see NBC giving up the NHL. Both seem to be doing great with each other. I think the NHL feels burned by ESPN at this point.

Although NBC did not appreciate NHL Commish Bettman's decision to prohibit NHL players from the Olympics -- NBC's Olympics. Now the US and Canadian teams will look like MLB's replacement teams that played during spring training in 1995, a combination of recently retired players and over-the-hill veterans hanging on in the minor leagues, along with kids who are still in college or junior hockey. The other nations' teams will be full of completely unfamiliar names from their domestic leagues. NBC has already said it will not be airing a single NHL game during the Olympics. That cannot be good for the two sides' future relationship.

Considering that hockey is just about the only Winter Olympic sport that has any appeal to male viewers, there are going to be a lot of disappointed, angry advertisers when the Olympics wrap up.

The Olympics really screw up the NHL season. Why should they be forced to compete and shut down for 3 weeks. It's the same reason MLB refuses to send players in the summer. A glorified exhibition is all it is.

But MLB has World Baseball Classic. NBA/WNBA/MLS send their best guys. ÑHL can move their All-Star Break to that week but cancel the event year of Olympics and then allow it's guys play for their Country. Also NFL needs to be in Olympics and more Overseas Leagues where Players come from to because in Draft no guys come from Canada,Russia,High School Teams and so on only from College Teams.
MLB is on ESPN,Fox,MLB Network and TBS so NHL can be ESPN besides NBC/NBCSN and NHL Network.

The World Baseball classic is before the season starts. And I think that is a worthless event as well. Far to many injury risks for no payoff. The NHL has to shut down for 3 weeks for the Olympics, and you know NBC would have to show the games live at 4 am. Who wants to see an 18 hour replay of hockey? The NFL will never be an olympic sport.

The NBA season is finished before the summer games start. MLS isn't a big enough sport to dictate wether to send players or not.

Did you really mean NFL? American football may be growing in popularity internationally, mainly in Europe, but it isn't played on anything but a very low level anywhere but in the US, and it is virtually unknown in South America, Africa and Asia. It has less of a chance to get into the Olympics than cricket. And besides, where would it fit? Putting it in the Summer Games would expose players to strenuous competitive play just before training camp; that wouldn't fly. Putting it in the Winter Games -- in indoor stadiums -- would position it at that start of a very necessary off-season.

MLS isn't a big enough sport to dictate wether to send players or not.

Also, the Olympic soccer competition is for under-23s only, which is why most of the top international stars never play in it. It's not because they don't want to. They aren't eligible.

Also no NFL Teams in Canada yet and other Sports do have Teams in Canada. World League isn't like other Sports Overseas Leagues. If they move Summer Olympics to end of June might work for NFL and if NHL part of Olympics can be finished in a week might work for NHL.

It will be weird when ESPNews shuts down or renames then there will be no sports new channel in the US while most other countries with sports channels have one
Sportscenter runs on the mothership constantly, no need for ESPNnews anymore. Most of the time it's just overflow programming.

The NFL is not structured for the Olympics, it will never happen.

Because NFL Teams aren't signing enough CFL or World League guys.

Their's enough Sports Movies to show on ESPNNEWS besides ESPN Radio Talk Shows not on TV yet and Sporting Events if needed.

A NBA and NHL channels like MLB Strike and NFL Red Zones are. Fox Sports Game Plan channels. CNN or CBS or ABC Business Channel. PBS channels Local News Shows. Turner it's own Sports Channel with CNN.

“This Is Us” may have the lowest retention rate of any post-Super Bowl show. I know the women who “watch the game for the commercials” will tune in but the male sports fans will see it as a “man card violation.”

I feel most of the reason why the NHL isn't taking part in the Olympics this year is due to the Olympics being in South Korea. If they were in North America or Europe, Bettman would happily allow players to go.
