Your 2018 general TV predictions (or guesses)

my predictions:

The Weather Channel gets a big ratings boom during Hurricane season as it will be the first one since Harvey, Irma and Maria caused billions of dollars in damage, but the Hurricane season winds up being like 2006, a big bust for major hurricanes after a very bad hurricane season the previous year.

.

Local TV Stations in California like San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego will end up pre-empting network coverage of hurricane news coverage. Due to wildfires being bigger than even the Thomas fire and yes Climate Change will be a major topic here in California and yes Local TV Stations will get a boost for that reason.

Some of my predictions. Who knows if they will come true, we'll see.

- CBS announces 'The Big Bang Theory' will conclude its run at the end of season 12 (2018-19), it was renewed to that date.
- More sexual harassment charges lead to shows we never expected being cancelled or pulled from reruns.
- ABC's 'The Good Doctor' will be renewed for season 2 ASAP, due to high ratings and praise with Freddie Highmore's character of an autistic doctor
- Fox will change MyNetworkTV into a repeat network for Fox shows and change the name to 'Fox Plus,' like what they have been doing to some of the MNTV O&Os.
- Alex Trebek announces his retirement from Jeopardy! and a new host is picked before September.
- Jerry Springer and Maury are both cancelled. (Praying, praying, praying...)

I'm going to double up on two of your predictions and say that one of the sexual harrassment charges involves either Jerry or Maury (or Steve Wilkos), or their shows' staff members and/or past guests.

Or maybe even Dr. Phil (regarding the sexual harrassment charges), or the charges from last week of drugs and booze on Dr. Phil's set take on more legs and leads to at least the cancellation of the Dr. Phil Show:

- More sexual harassment charges lead to shows we never expected being cancelled or pulled from reruns.

I'll also predict one of those casualties will be at least one currently popular "reality" show--such as "Dancing with the Stars" or "Survivor." Or maybe even a huge celebrity.

I will also predict that the new "American Idol" flops on ABC and is cancelled before the season's winner is announced.

- Fox will change MyNetworkTV into a repeat network for Fox shows and change the name to 'Fox Plus,' like what they have been doing to some of the MNTV O&Os.

And that My's conversion to "Fox Plus" will lead to the start of affiliation switches nationwide as this network goes on either subchannels of existing Fox stations in the next few years (as current affiliation agreements expire), or on other stations that have joint sales/shared services agreements with existing Fox stations.

I will guess one of them locally will involve WBUI-23.1 (Decatur, IL), my market's current CW affiliate, who has an JSA/SSA with ABC affiliates WICS/WICD and Fox affiliates WRSP/WCCU (Springfield/Champaign respectively). It will be announced this year that upon the expiration of WBUI's current CW affiliation contract, CW and My/Fox Plus will swap affiliates in my market: Fox Plus to WBUI (and new call letters TBD), with CW moving to our current My affiliate WCIX-49.1 Springfield (also available on WCIA-3.2 Champaign).

Fox plus already exist in San Francisco as KTVU plus aka KICU and its not even a My Network affiliate. It's a secondary Fox station just in case KTVU has to pre-empt Fox programming for breaking news. But it will be interesting to see if My Network TV will stay on KRON 4 the Nexstar owned station in San Francisco or will it move to KICU aka KTVU +.

More men will start coming forward and file lawsuits about being harassed. And this is right after Hulk Hogan and Terry Crews have filed lawsuits against the people who committed misconduct on them. Note WHPT and Cox radio will have to respond to the Hulk Hogan Lawsuit that just came out this weekend and now Cox Radio will have to decide whether to keep Mike Calta or fire him the Tampa Radio Host now that he's being sued over sexual misconduct allegations by Hulk Hogan. Wow Hulk Hogan and Terry Crews these people were the last people I ever though about on who becomes harassment victims though. But these two lawsuits will encourage other famous men to come forward and make a lawsuit against the people they say harassed them.

Would this result in Fox Plus having more than the 2 hours in primetime Monday to Friday if it became a subchannel? Do you think it would repeat recent series of shows like The Mick, Lethal Weapon etc or older series? So you think MNTV will be kept but with more of a rebrand and it wI'll be a subchannel?

my predictions:

one big TV company bails out iHeartRadio or Cumulus from folding with Cumulus already filed for bankruptcy.

AT&T/Time Warner merger is either finally approved but either DirecTV or Turner Networks is sold off to make the DOJ or it is canceled and and both sides gives up and tries to merge wit another company instead.

Sinclair/Tribune merger gets completed

New Japan Pro Wrestling breaks though and causes a new pro wrestling war between them and WWE while the Japanese wrestling promotion continues it's North American expansion.

speaking of WWE, they will be sold to either Disney or NBCUniversal/Comcast, which NBCU wants WWE to keep it on USA past it's current deal which ends in 2019.

the Russia investigation leads to Trump being impeached and his trial be televised to the highest rating of all the news channels during the duration of said impeachment trial.

The Weather Channel gets a big ratings boom during Hurricane season as it will be the first one since Harvey, Irma and Maria caused billions of dollars in damage, but the Hurricane season winds up being like 2006, a big bust for major hurricanes after a very bad hurricane season the previous year.

the first 24/7 4K TV network launches on a Cable provider.
With regards to the 24/7 4K network do you think it will be from NBCUniversal/Disney etc or just any 24/7 4K network? Layer3 TV carries Insight UHD and NASA UHD already and Directv already has a 24/7 4K channel but it's more not much of a channel really just programs on a loop.

Not all My Network TV stations are on a Fox station like KSMOTV Affliated with KCTV5 CBS station and Fox4kc Sinclair station and KC has already a Independent station 38 the Spot but could have 2 because only need to program 7pm to 9pm.

Also HLN becomes a repeat of Talk/Court Shows. Weather Channel goes back to Weather 24/7 and adds Weather 2 for Weather Movies/Shows and other none Weather Center,Weekend Recharge/Underground,AMQC,PM Edition and so on. ESPN adds Sports Movies none Baseball ones. More Sports Game Shows launch like a Millionaire one. Google Fiber starts it's own channels same with CCI. Some how Owners of CFNEWS13/Bay News 9 and Chicago TV Land gets National Feed.

How about WWE sold to Sinclair--or at least Sinclair actively pursues a takeover of the WWE?

Another prediction: A possible Comcast-Verizon merger (or efforts toward).

Comcast Verizon deal? Umm but Verizon just put investments on Oath the owners of AOL, Yahoo and Huffington Post a few months ago. I'm not sure about this deal.

Viacom would have to consolidate their channels and close some of their lower rated/revenue producing channels. There's been dysfunction at Viacom for the past few years with CEO changes. But carrying out the removal of lower profit channels or merging channels as a way to adapt to the current media landscape like compete against Hulu, Netflix and CBS All access for on demand content.

Fox will drop scripted dramas and comedies in favor of reality programs, live sports and newscasts.
Comcast will buy the Fox Sports Networks and make a national sports service with regional games each night, and national and regional sports news programs at the start and end of the night.
Univision's Spanish broadcasts of the UEFA soccer games will be a big hit!

Why would Comcast buy Fox Sports 1 when they already have NBC Sports Network?

CCI will buy the Sports Networks and Scripps maybe and then CCIKC show every team other then Jayhawks and other local programming and also take Newsy National with a local feed also in non CCI area's. Cox will buy Hearst and purchase a Cable system in KC and Orlando area. Meredith will buy also a Cable system like Cable One or Sudderlink.

Pop cancels Impact Wrestling by spring or summer and WWE buys it for a bargain and puts up every single TNA/GFW/Impact Wrestling show and PPV on the WWE Network. USA resigns WWE to a new TV deal which will see Raw return to two hours, and syndicate WWE Superstars and Main Event to TV stations Nationwide through their NBC Universal syndication arm and debuts This Week in WWE on the USA Network on the weekends. CNN loses more viewers leading to it's death as a channel. More smaller cable networks that rarely get ratings will be closed down.

Yes. It could act as a 'second viewing' for Fox programming you may have missed earlier in the week (and you're too cheap or lazy to program the DVR), or air some 2000s and early 2010s Fox series. Reruns of Hell's Kitchen / Kitchen Nightmares, Glee, Fringe and The O.C. could air on a 'Fox +'. Maybe a night where they show some classic Fox shows - MyNetworkTV currently runs X-Files reruns. Some ideas include Melrose Place, Ally McBeal or Beverly Hills 90210, all hits when they aired originally.
Hmmm...a WWE-Sinclair deal? They've already got ROH on a 'must-run' basis for all of their stations. I doubt we'd see something like that, but it would be a money-maker for Vince McMahon. Something like 'WWE The Bottom Line' could be aired on the Sinclair-owned stations in tandem with ROH. A lot of young people ARE cutting the cord, you know.

Mediacom buy somebody in KC area maybe CCI just to expand it's coverage area in KC area. Unimas will show up in KS/MO/OK. DTV America stations will make it on Small Cable systems.

I can see WLOS/13 in Asheville airing WWE Superstars after the 10pm news on WMYA and also after the 11:00 news on WLOS/13. Or WYFF/4 could get WWE Superstars to air after SNL.
