Your best call?

If you're a Talk radio host, you're invited to be part of a podcast I'm putting together.

I'm collecting aircheck clips of GREAT (not good, GREAT) callers.

Why: To demonstrate technique, how talented Talk hosts attract and interact with callers. I'm looking for that "Wow!" moment when everything clicked, and what-the-caller-said jumped-out-the-speaker, and demonstrated how you NAILED your topic that day...and really engaged the audience.

All hosts whose submitted work I include will be identified.

The finished podcast will be:
1. on iTunes, as a free download;
2. on my web site;
3. linked here; and
4. linked to McVayMedia.com.

I will not sell the podcast or sell a sponsorship in it or otherwise derive revenue from it.
Think of this as a "Best Of."
It's "a virtual convention workshop" that showcases great Talk radio technique.

Just for submitting audio -- whether or not I use it -- you will get a copy of my May newsletter, which includes notes from broadcasting's biggest actual convention, NAB2009 in Las Vegas last month.

If I do use what-you-send, I will give you a free one-year newsletter subscription (beginning with a June issue you WON'T want to miss).

Heck, just for reading THIS, here's the April issue: http://getonthenet.com/09April.pdf

This is not a contest, but you may (as radio promos say) "enter as often as you like."
Got several calls, on different topics, from different shows? Send 'em all.
Got an hour when your call-in topic really caught fire? Send me the whole hour, and I'll pick one or more calls.

I would especially like to hear FIRST-TIME callers, because attracting them says good things about your topic and technique. Or send callers who surprised you or the audience with what they said. Or those emotionally-riveting calls that'd keep a listener in the car with the key on Accessories.

To submit, send your name and call letters, a photo if you wish, and the URL of your web site if you have one, [email protected]. Attach MP3 files 10MB or smaller. Send larger MP3 files to that same address via YouSendIt.com, which is free.

Thanks!

RE "When's the deadline?"

Now THERE'S a radio guy!

APPLAUSE

NOTHING warms-a-consultant's-heart like buttoning-down the fundamentals.

Next-couple-weeks is fine.
I'm traveling like cuh-RAY-zee in-the-meantime.
So hit-me-with-your-best-shot, either from your archives, or a new show this week or next.

Is this part of the Holland Cooke full court press to de-emphasize the host....once again?

As a listener....I repeat, as a LISTENER, I never listened for callers---I always tuned in for the host. Whatever the host did with callers was part of why I listened to that host, but it was NEVER about the caller.

From the standpoint of programming, callers are a wildcard that CANNOT be counted on. This is why they are not paid to be there.

I could SWEAR we've already had this conversation.

Oops.
I should clarify.
When I said you're "invited," I didn't mean to imply you're "required" to participate.

Not interested?
Look for an X in the red box in the upper-right-hand-corner of your screen.

Gotta love Holland Cooke.

Agree with him or not, he always makes me laugh.
