YOUR CHANCE TO VOTE FOR/AGAINST HD RADIO!

SUPERCASTER,

Well, you out-did yourself this time - absolutely, amusing ! They have my vote ! :D

I'm dismayed when I see BA's "Receptor" maligned... The "original mono" version of this radio is awesome. I own one - have given two as gifts - and reccommened its purchase to many - ALL very satisfied. I suspect that the folks at the very fine Boston Accoustics company may be regretting their decision to bite at the IBOC apple.

The link was very amusing--but TRUE! Is there something about the "IBOC chip" that renders a very good radio "deaf" in reception performance? The original (mono) BA Receptor is amoung the very finest radios for casual FM reception. It is also "OK" on AM. It offers VERY GOOD sound quality... I would think it to be a broadcaster's "dream come true"... But the "HD version" PALES in reception comparison. WHY?

Hippo, Are you sure we aren't "twins by different mothers?" I also have a mono BA receptor. Just like you, I find it is one of the best values in radios out there. It is well worth its price. I recommend them to lots of people. It is even on our radio station's web site as one of our recommended radios.

I even like their hi-fi speakers.

I'm happy that you agree Chuck. I purchased a mono BA Receptor for my parents as a Christmas gift in '04... They enjoy it in their home on the South Carolina coast. Even with its attached 12-inch "pigtail", that radio picks up nearly every Charleston and Savannah FM from 50-miles away with outstanding sound - and several are on adjacent channels. My parents (whom have NO "broadcast agility") frequently tell me that it is a GREAT RADIO and they enjoy it. They recently lost their favorite station (107.9 WLOW) when the "corporates" decided that HHI needed A SECOND "disco" 70s station... OMG - what madness directed that "intelligent decision"? ...But the BA came through for them - faithfully receiving 730 AM with very fine sound from Charleston during daylight hours only.

BA decided to enter the IBOC fray... And the reputation of this very fine radio has been diminished because of it. I'm sure there is more negative comment floating around on the net regarding the "BA HD Receptor" than was EVER credited to it's OUTSTANDING analog predecessor - That's a shame!

I was at Hilton Head a couple of weeks ago for a car show. The people I saw did not look like they really wanted to Boogie Down with John Travolta, although they may have done so at one time. If there was ever a place for a really good Standards station, Hilton Head ought to be it. I guess the format switch was about as logical as many of the other things happening to radio, including IBUZZ.

I have not seen that, just the HD version and other HD radios have gotten much criticism.

Cruise the "plantations" of Hilton Head and you'll find no shortage of million-dollar-plus homes owned by 50, 60, and 70-somethings, yet consider the "local radio" in the HHI-Beaufort-Fripp market. NO oldies (98.3 in Sav recently became "Jack-in-the-PC-box") and no standards (WLOW is now a "globe on the disco dance floor"). A single classic rocker and news/talk AM comes from Savannah--"local" radio consists of a "lite AC" (I'm falling asleep), CHR, 70s disco, low-end rock, ESPN, hispanic, and black gospel... Do these stations target the "homeowners" on HHI (98.7 and ESPN 1130 may) - or do they cater to those who drive onto that island to clean the houses?

Corporate radio continues to amaze me... 'Could anything be less rational on HHI - YEP - IBOC... Go figure!
