Your comments on local radio during and after TS (or Hurricane) Ernesto

Last year I write briefly about local radio coverage of Wilma, in November Radio News.

But I can't listen to all the stations on my little hand-cranked Freeplay radio.

Therefore I welcome your comments, after it passes, about the radio coverage you heard.

Please critique coverage on at least 2 or 3 or more stations, if you can.

I won't copy from this board to Radio News. So if you want to contribute,
please e-mail it to the address in the copyright notice on my pages.

Of course, if you want to contribute money, that's appreciated, too! There's a payPal link.

Thanks to all...

Did anyone listen to the radio Tuesday or Wednesday.

I watched C-SPAN Tues. nite.... David Boaz speaking.

And followed the weather online.

Y-100 actually stopped the voice-tracking on Tuesday when Ernesto was approaching from the south. After "Elvis Duran & The Morning Zoo" (which actually featured NBC-6's Lonnie Quinn reporting from the National Hurricane Center) Froggy continued on as the deejay from 10 to 12. (Lonnie Quinn was also part of that midday stint.) At 12 noon Chris Cruz took over for the remaining three hours of the midday shift. (Froggy and Chris Cruz combined obviously filled-in for Nikki out of Chicago.)

Having LIVE & LOCAL deejays on Y-100 after 'The Zoo' was a wise choice with an approaching tropical system.

Nikki was back on from 10 to 3 on Thursday and Friday - voice-tracking from 'The Windy City'.

As for me I'll be off the board all next week. I'll be out-of-town on business near Philadelphia. I'll be sure to check out such great hit music stations in the area as Q-102, 94.5-PST (New Jersey), and 93.7-STW (Delaware).

Enjoy your trip. Philadelphia is a great city.

Enjoy the radio. It's not that bad, but it used to be better. Although I live in North Jersey, I travel down to that area a couple times a year.

Major - check out the new SOJO 104.9 (WSJO) in South Jersey = HOT AC. Strong signal, veteran PD, talented jox, very well produced. I'd love to hear your thoughts when you return...not only on SOJO but on each station you mention...

OK I'll do that. Thanks for the tip. I'll do a review (maybe on the Philly board) of every station that I'm able to check out once I return from the region (next weekend). Right now I've got the following stations on my 'list to hear':

WJJZ - 106.1 - That's the new 'Rhythmic A.C.' station that recently started up with Whoopi in the morning. (Kevin wrote about it in his radio blog.)

WSJO - 104.9 - NJ VET's suggestion.

WIOQ - 102.1 - No-brainer TOP 40 station.

WRDW - 96.5 - Rhythmic TOP 40 station that doesn't appear to be too urban.

WPST - 94.5 - Trenton New Jersey TOP 40 station.

WSTW - 93.7 - Wilmington Delaware 'ROCK 40' station.

WBYO - 88.9 - Christian pop and rock station.

Glad to know someone reads my blog! Thanks.

I read it too..... But you don't have a lot of content yet.

BTW -- When I post a new article, I always mention it here.

Glad to know I have at least TWO readers! :)

I put my latest writing in my signature.

Ok, now I really have to get to my neighbors! They're having a BBQ despite it being 60 degrees with gusty winds and rain. :(

I'm sure there are many more readers.

You forgot to post the address, too!

This will only be my 2ND trip ever to 'The City Of Brotherly Love'. The first time was a good 30 years ago during a grade school Social Studies field trip to all of the historical sites.

I actually did fly out of PHL back in March of 1991. After Desert Storm I flew from Saudi Arabia to Spain to Dover AFB Delaware. I then took a bus to Philadelphia where I spent the night in a nice hotel. (That was a long Saturday !) The next morning I flew from PHL to MIA, and then I returned home to Homestead AFB.

It's should be cool(er) and nice up there next week with daytime highs in the upper-70s and overnight lows in the upper-50s. That's like a nice March day aqui en el Sur de Florida !
