Yeah, what radioman said. WLS-FM is fine as is.

Also, Q-101 has one foot out the door and the other on a banana peel. It may be your dream dial, but this station isn't viable without a significant format change. I assume that by leaving out the likes of 97.1, 97.9, 98.7 and 99.5 that you like them as they are. I must agree with that. All are pretty much where they need to be right now, formatwise.

I'd love to see 107.9 and/or 106.7 with English-language formats. If it's my "dream," then Crawford's urban/AC format goes to Soul 106.7 and give 107.9 the Bird - so to speak. Spanish is over represented in Chicago, particularly when you consider that it has piss-poor billing per rating point. Time to thin the herd.....

Ah, details, details. I do like it when people pay attention to details! :D ;) :D

Yes, WLS-FM could use more local talent. That's when they're at their best. Not that Shannon is so bad, but a market the size of Chicago deserves to have a local jock on during the day. Unfortunately, that could be a tough sell because the late morning (when Shannon is on) is when WLS-FM is getting it's best ratings. Getting the most bang for the least buck.

Personally, I think that the reason for this is at-work listening more than anything having to do with Scott's content. But, money talks - so it could be a tough argument to make. I will agree 100% that the station is at its best when it's local. For one, Dick Biondi is just awesome to listen to. And, the weekend guy who sometimes takes his place is very good too.

But, in the larger sense of formats, 94.7 is great where it is with oldies that center on the 60s and 70s. None of this namby-pamby 80's AC crap mixed in either!!

In a perfect world, which of course can't happen in radio today, how good would WLS-FM be with Larry Lujack & Tommy Edward in the morning? Nothing against Brant Miller--just that they would be so much better IMO. Then you add Fred Winston to the mix and put him on in the afternoon & move Greg Brown to mid days.
Finish with Biondi at night & you have the perfect station.
I can dream can't I?

OK--

I would like to see the return of at least one of the two classical stations we lost, so that those of us who enjoy this type of music could have a choice.

Then, I would like there to be at least one full time jazz station-- not "smooth" jazz; the real thing! (The smooth jazz station can stay; I don't mind their format).

We need at least one adult standards station that plays crooners, big bands, and swing for all of the older folks that remember that music, and all of the younger ones that are now discovering how great it was!!

We should have an intelligent talk station-- a Milt Rosenberg/Rick Kogan type of eclectic talk format. They could throw in some radio drama and folk music to mix things up a bit.

A southern gospel station would be a welcome replacement for one of the ones that features time-brokered radio evangelists (you know who).

A variety station would be nice-- the kind of format many stations had back in the 50's, and that you could hear at its best on WGN-- talk during the day, radio drama and classical music at night; baseball; Harold Turner live at the WGN pipe organ on Sundays; light music at dinnertime, etc. All live and local. Awesome!

Finally, I would love to see the return of the real elevator music format that popularized FM "back in the day". You know, something you can turn on in the office that won't distract you while you're preparing that next important Executive Staff presentation.

I understand that none of this is ever going to happen, but... you asked!

I'm totally with you. Radio the way it should (used to) be.
Like I said before we can dream can't we?
