Your Favorite Jocks In Northeast Texas

Okay -- send some kudos out to your favorite jocks....anywhere in Northeast Texas (Tyler/Longview, Texarkana, Lufkin, Mt. Pleasant, Carthage, etc.)

I'll put Rick Evans at KOOI and Gary Walker at KNUE on the list.

Even though I'm not a big urban radio fan, Brain at The Blaze is one of the best urban jocks I've ever heard. I'm not sure why he is still working in E Texas.

Larry Dixon....WIBG/KVIL/KLUV Merry Christmas Larry wherever you are!

Mick Fulgham at KDOK Tyler is on the top of my list, with his excellent timing and show content. He's funny and always energetic; the guy's got it all when it comes to a "greatest hits of all time" format. Fact is, KDOK is one of the few stations in East Texas that always sounds good, and being live and local (and managed by Paul Gleiser) is the reason.

Amen to that JD! KDOK is a fantastic station! As Far as Sulphur Spings and Mnt Pleasant goes.......they are worse than a student during their 1st week at Elkins institute. The Waitt radio network they use has got to be the cheapest and THE cheapest sounding of any Net. Their morning guy on KLAKE voice tracks his show ,EVEN WHEN HE IS THERE!. Plain pittiful

I am going to agree with you on Mick Fulgham at KDOK. I have known Mick over 20 years and he never misses a beat on his execution of his show. I've worked with him when I was working part-time at KKTX-FM when its studios were in both Kilgore and the Longview Mall (oh yeah, the Noalmark years), then at KPXI Mt. Pleasant and later KBUS in Paris. And I must say, he's really tight on the air. And without argument, KDOK still sounds like a real radio station the way it should sound.

Another one you should rack up is another voice in which KOOI voided along with Charlie O: Amy Austin. Great personality and very believable in every angle. Why they let her go along with Charlie, I don't know, but she's quite the woman who can make anyone's day more festive.

Agreed on Mick, Amy and KDOK comments/choices.

KDOK-FM would do much better if the station could be heard beyomd the limited confines of its current coverage area. I agree the station does a outstanding job in some respects, but there's more to it than a few listeners, strictly local commercials (and the same ones over and over), and "Wonderful Tonight" played ad nauseum.

A bigger signal would cure some of the ills, the resr could be dealt with through effective program direction. Gleiser needs to deal with tne signal problem first.

And that would be interesting in and of itself...especially considering the co-channel in Shreveport (KSYR) and the first adjacent stations in Marshall (KCUL-FM/92.3) and Lufkin (KAVX 91.9). If they were to QSY (change frequency for the non-hams in the crowd), where would they be able to go around here that's no already taken? Or...do I smell purchasing an existing station? If that's the case, which one/s...what's left of the Waller Empire?

Jumpin' catfish! It must be late. I think I've just gone over the limit of questions for one post!

Frequency wise, there is "No Room at the Inn," in Longview. He's have toe either simulcast on an existing station, of if some of the frozen translator applications ever come into play, perhaps negotiate for one of those.

I'd have to vote for that morning guy on Magic 93-3 in Texarkana... smooth delivery.. good pipes.. knows when to shutup.. (unlike that morning guy on Kicker)..

:)

As for Sulphur Springs..well.... they don't "do" radio. They occupy a frequency, and take orders from Mnt Pleasant. Mnt Pleasaant all they do is yawn, scratch their rumps and call it entertainment. Hey Dru.if you finally lose your gig at KYKX,you could land in Mnt.Pleasant.

Who is Paul Glieser??

KDOK definitely does it right, with local talent. I always have thought that Gary Walker/KNUE (former KYKX jock) had great pipes and was a good personality. I also like Dave Moreland at The Breeze (formerly of KTYL & KOOI).

I don't know where all these people are now, but some great ones were...
Kenn Williams/KZEY
Matt Walker/KZEY
Herc Wells/KZEY, KLGV
John Moore/KNUE

And, of course The Amazing Superbreeze now holding down the fort in Mississippi as LA Breeze, and of course he was at 96X, KPXI, KISX, and KLGV.

Well, thank you for the mention.

Gleiser is the owner of KTBB/KDOK/KEES/KYZS and is head of Gleiser Communications, Inc.

I agree...Moreland's a good jock.

To answer your question about John Moore, he is now in PR with Trinity Mother Francis Health System. He's been there several (it seems) years now. I worked with him briefly (~1yr) at KNUE. I will always enjoy the birthday wake-up calls and the phone calls to "Murray's Hit-and-Run Convenience Store" for the lottery numbers. Long live Apoo!!

I should have remembered that about John Moore. He was at Mother Frances, when I was at KLTV. I think he was actually doing double duty, when he was still at KNUE.
