Not only am I an audio nerd, but I'm also a Pro Tools fanatic.
And by fanatic, I mean, I've invested a truckload of money in the software, the hardware, and the plugins, and by God, I'm stickin' with it.
Anyway, I must admit, I've got LOTS of plugins...all of them legit by the way.
And, honestly, more often than not, I find myself reaching for the built-in comp / limiter / expander for my voiceovers.
Sure, a little C1 or the Renaissance Compressors from Waves does the trick and makes things sound nice and phat too...
But, I think for built-in dynamics processing, Pro Tools has a really impressive toolset.
I have a good friend who does a tremendous amount of A/V post here in Chicago, and even he reaches for the Digirack plugins!
So, before you go shelling out your "hard-earned moolah" on expensive plugins...
Download as many demo versions as you can before you buy, and try the built-in stuff that's in your workstation already.
You might just be surprised what a little tweaking and twiddling can get you...for next to nuthin'!
Oh...and for what it's worth...I second that emotion on the iZotope stuff...I have all their plugs, and they're fantastic.
And for creative plugins, I really like the Soundtoys plugins...They're super-neato, and now, they're Native, so you don't need a TDM / HD system to run 'em!
