Your favorite sports stations

Title says it all.

610 WIP Philadelphia (my favorite)
97.5 ESPN Philadelphia
1050 ESPN New York
660 WFAN New York
103.3 ESPN Dallas
105.3 KRLD Dallas
570 KLAC Los Angeles
93.7 KDKA Pittsburgh

Here in Phoenix, the sports-talk radio situation is pretty pathetic. KDUS 1060 is the best of a bad lot, but improving. KTAR 620 has most of the local teams, so I have to listen to them if I want play-by-play (no local teams other than the Cardinals are carried on broadcast television anymore, and I don't have cable). Forget XTRA 910 (KGME). They have the Coyotes and Westwood One games, but those are the only reasons to bother with them.

Nationally, I listen to WSCR Chicago online most of the time. WFAN New York and WEEI Boston are decent as well.

WEEI 850AM Here in Boston is great. Dennis and Callahan is on weekday mornings, John Ryder si on most weeknights before and after the Red Sox Games and After most Celtics games, John Ryder is the man!!! He's worth it to listen to. They carry ESPN on at night, they used to carry Fox Sports Radio, but that changed about two years ago because their competitor now has Fox Sports Radio on at night. If anything, for a station like WEEI whio's been around for quite a long time, they'd be better off running Sporting News Radio instead of ESPN.
But all in all, WEEI is great. It's well worth the listen. Any show on there is great.
I also agree with WIP in Philadelphia, and WFAN. Both are also good stuff.
Tell us more if you can?

I wish Cleveland had an all-sports station.

Yes, I am aware that WKNR in Cleveland exists, but it's a sports marketing tool that's aligned with ESPN Radio. It's the Midwest version of KLAC - yeah, it's THAT bad. But it's the only game in town, unless you count news/talk station WTAM, which has the PBP rights to all the relevant teams.

Just terrible.

The 5 stations nominated for a Marconi (The National Association of Broadcasters) Award are:

KTCK - 1310 The Ticket in Dallas
WGFX - 104.5 The Zone in Nashville
WAXY - 790 The Ticket in Miami
WBZ - 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston
WXYT - 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit

All of these are excellent stations. Though, KTCK - Dallas, WAXY- Miami & WXYT - Detroit have all been nominated previously as well.

WFAN won last year and this year has been nominated for Legendary Station of the Year category.

Also, WEEI's Dennis & Callahan have been nominated this year in the "Large Market Personality of the Year" category. WEEI has also won the Sports Station award in the past.

These stations are currently the industry standard. Particularly the ones who have either won or have been nominated multiple times.

KTCK Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket.

I don't know about the others around the country, because I only care about Dallas/Fort Worth sports.

If the Ticket in Dallas has never won this award then they are way overdue. However, what WBZ has pulled off in Boston is really remarkable. Not only catching but surpassing one of the top legendary sports stations is very impressive.

All 5 of the stations are worthy.

KTCK-AM The Ticket in Dallas is way overdue. The MUSERS in the morning and BAD Radio in the afternoon are two of the best drive time shows in the country. They are a pioneer of sorts in the industry, as they created the model that many stations use now with a mixture of sports talk and guy talk.

Though, WAXY-AM Ticket in Miami overcame a 20 year head start from it's competitor and in 3 years became the top station in the market. Thanks to young/hipper - sports/guy talk programming. Now, in year 7 they maintain that position thanks to strong drive time programming that could air anywhere in the country with Sedano in the AM and Le Batard in the PM.

WBZ's story is magnificent as well. WEEI was a ratings monster and much like WAXY in Miami used the "younger/hipper" model and has created a legitimate ratings war in Boston. I don't think anyone saw that coming this quickly. Having a company like CBS that has shown a great commitment to sports across the country certainly plays a huge role.

WXYT-FM in Detroit was an FM pioneer along with WGFX-FM Nashville and follow similar models that the other nominees have for their programming.

Again, all very deserving stations and nominees.

KTCK has won a Marconi for sports radio station of the year.
