Your First DX Catch of 2022

Finally! My first DX catch for this year complete with positive ID, New one this morning at appx 5:15CST. WKJG. 5kw directional to the north northeast, from Fort Wayne, IN (night pattern). On top of 1380 for about ten minutes. "1380 and 100.9 the Fan". The signal was really good most of the time it was in, then it went into a slow fade and vanished completely. Second one of 2022 came just minutes later. WTAX from Springfield, IL on 1240. Re-log that I've heard a few times. Barely above the slop for about five minutes, but I did catch a positive ID.

Conditions in general were quite good this morning. Radio for both of those catches was the C Crane Skywave. Distances: WKJG:187 miles, WTAX: 181 miles.

Nicely done!

I also used to sometimes hear KELI competing with WIL in the Chicago area.
I remember hearing KELI in its last days of Top 40 greatness.
This was 1980 or so. The song, Good Vibrations, from 1966.
I remember being with my brother in my car and turning-up the radio during the end of the song where the Beach Boys sing
"...AHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!" before a brief silence, then the exquisite acapella ending...
Sounded great on a Top 40 rocker AM.

This was one of the few times I heard that song before the early 80s. Today, I"m a giant Brian Wilson & The Beach Boys fan.

WKJG is remembered as top 40 WMEE from 1971-79, before the format and calls flipped to 97.3 Z(WMEF). WKJG was the original call though.

At long last my first DX of 2022, I got WGCL-1370, Bloomington, IN around 4:45pm 6/14. That was immediately followed by WSPD, Toledo

Congrats! I've never heard WGCL. bit WSPD is fairly regular at my location. Often mixing with KDTH (Dubuque, IA). My most wanted on 1370 is WCOA, Pensacola. ....I'm not holding my breath.
